Bloody puppy!!

Today I went with our puppy to the local country park, huge place, full of woodland and lake etc.

Walked round the edge of said lake to get to the woods, it has a very steep edge in parts. Puppy walks along right next to the edge (as usual), gets distracted and falls in. I have to lay flat in the mud to extend my arm far enough to fish him out!

I now look like a tit but carry on regardless. Less than TWO minutes later, puppy gets distracted - in again!!

Ha ha! I came close to thinking I was going to have to leap in a ditch to get mine out when he was about 4 months old. Luckily a pack of JRT's turned up and they were worth putting extra scrambling effort in.

Ha, have had similar with my insane 1 year old doodle who threw himself in a resevoir just as I was saying 'Oh I wonder if he can swi.......?'. Anyway he can. However his plan to play with a couple of swans that rounded the bend nearly made me throw up with anxiety.

A few weeks later he chucked himself in a very swollen and fast running river. Hideous few moments ensued as I legged it along with him being swept away until he scrambled up the bank. He was JUST about to get back in when I put him on a lead.

You all make me realise its not just me!!!

My dog is a spaniel, so a total water nut. He has been beaten up by mnay swans, the odd goose and once, a duck.

Chickens, what does he actually do with the birds? Does he just chase them? Gymdog isn't a spaniel but does seem highly, er, motivated by water fowl.... moorhens seem particularly entertaining. He's only been able to observe them from his long lead to date, but recall training is going well and I can now sort of imagine a time when he might be offlead properly .... except what is he going to do by water? Eat them? He does have form with small rodents

No. He chased one swan, and then it chased him. He has inadvertently come across the others, and they have seen him off good and proper. Quite alarming to see a furiously paddling spaniel being chased by a gliding, and gaining, water bird. It's like he's a rowing boat and they are torpedoes.

I had to pull our last dog out of an artificial lake (with a nice 2' drop down to the water) when I was 8mo pregnant, which was quite 'interesting'. She was a good swimmer and could easily have swum to the place she could get out , but was panicking so trying to get out in the closest place rather than the one she needed to swim to.
