Car/travel crate

Hi, looking for tips about getting a car/travel crate. We need something portable and collapsible to take into hotels/camping/eurocamp style huts as well as the car. Not sure what type to go for. DDog is already very happy in his crate (snoozing there as I type).

Would he be OK in a slightly smaller one for when we are away - his current one is HUGE and I'm sure he could squidge into a smaller one? Otherwise we may need to buy a lorry rather than the S max we hope to get.

We've just bought one from pets at home, from their value range, it's much much smaller than the one DPuppy has at home, but it's big enough for him to stand up, turn around and lie down in, which is fine for the car.

We'll take it on holiday with us, but again for bed time only it'll be fine, the one he has at home he's in while we're out at work (3 hours at a time max), so he needs more room to play :)

We took him to pets at home to try them out, and they were fine with us taking it outside to try in the car.

Think about where you need to door to be, on the side or on the end, it makes a big difference when its going in the car, you need to be able to let him out easily for regular leg stretches/comfort stops.

I have used a company called Barjo in the past. You can look your car up on their website and they will tell you which models fit. This means they make the best use of the space in the car, and you will be able to get the doors open without putting the cage on blocks.
Excellent quality but not cheap :o

Ours was £50, big enough for a cocker spaniel, so a bit cheaper :)

Remember you'll still need room for luggage/picnics/wellies etc and you'll want to be able cover the boot area when you leave the car, we think we'll probably collapse ours so we can get the boot cover over, it's really quick and easy with the one we have.

We have a Safedog crate. Very good but hugely expensive!
