Stop insulting my dog....and therefore me!

I own a chihuahua. He is lovely. He is clever, well behaved, affectionate, and ok....quite small. This does not mean he is a rat, something a proper dog would eat for breakfast, something that would be nice in a sandwich, or any of the other hilarious comments that we have heard in the last few days.
He's part of our family, so leave him alone!

Reading that back, it sounds like I mean other posters on here, but it's not. It's friends and family who think its amusing to poke fun at our beloved little pooch.

I don't understand why people think its ok to insult someone's dog? They wouldn't walk up to a dog and call it ugly would they so why would they call it a rat or something like that?

I don't have a little dog but I love all kinds of dogs and can't stand people to think small dogs 'don't count'

But labs are smiley and bouncy and fab! And too big for me!
Probably not too big for our boy though, who totally rules over pils two golden retrievers, they follow him around the garden and relinquish bones to him whenever he does his mad wee growl at them

When we got whippy, some people said "eeeuwww, they are too skinny, get a nice spaniel". He is the best dog EVER (fact). He is not "eeeuwww". He is fab and cuddly and waggy and we couldn't have chosen a better dog.

I had somebody actually recoil from my puppy when they realised it was a Rottweiler they were stroking in the vet's waiting room.

Not to mention all the devil dog comments, he's only 6 months old -he's still at the people are for licking and dogs are for bouncing at stage! (not that I expect him or want him to turn into a snarling beast, but he's still a baby.)

I have a spaniel. He looks like he belongs on a greetings card. He is a right bastard. You can't judge a dog on looks. The amount of people who lead their bouncy puppies when they see my friend's rottie (named 'Princess', wearing a sparkly pink collar and an utter darling), yet let their precious pooch run up to my bastard spaniel.....nnnggghhhh

His name is Jasper, and he is a darling with people. Adores them. But he bloody hates other dogs. He's fine as long as they leave him alone, but a bouncy, enthusiastic dog running towards him makes him go all stiff and pointy, and then if they don't pay attention to his 'I'm not interested, look at my body language' stuff, he jumps at their mouth and makes a lot of blood curdling noise. Most other dogs grumble at him in a 'Well, up yours boyo' way and then strut away in high dudgeon. Thankfully, no one is actually hurt. I have taken to yelling at the owners of advancing hounds 'He's not friendly! He's a bastard!'. Yet still I get 'Oh, it's fine! Mine is friendly!'. Oh, well that's ok then We are training, but bloody hell it's hard work.

Exit and me have our very own Bastard Spaniel club. She knows my pain.

Honey, that would also count as a success in my book. My bastard spaniel particularly loathes labs, for some reason, and the owners of labs tend to be the most upset at any bastard behaviours. He's generally fine with other bastard dogs, such as grumpy terriers and aloof greyhounds. But labs really twist his bastarding melon.

My dogs are all desert (not the pudding) rescues and have all had a very serious issue with men in boiler suits which is unfortunate because all workers wear them here. Cue us buying boiler suits online and all prancing around to desensitise them. It worked although hard hats still a nemisis

I walked around in a baseball cap for several days for similar reasons, theo. Awful hat hair. Awful.

If i was a dog i'd hate labs too.

didn't understand this until i purchased a ...... lab.

mine is deeply rude, has no manners and deserves every air snap, growl and bark she gets. she will learn as i will get there with her but she is too damned sociable and spaniels hate it. i have a friend with 7 of them and they all hate labradors. im told that labradors insist on arse sniffing first but labs like nose sniffing.

problem i get is that i apologise for my dog but other dog owners think it's their dog's fault because they're growling and air snapping. so i have to be really careful with what i say as my apology is sometimes miscronstrued as an accusation against their dog.

I like all dog breeds but my preference is larger dogs... that said, my neighbours 2 JRT can kick the arse off my GSD in grumpiness and snapping. My 'dangerous dog' is a bloody rubbish scaredy dog and the old black lab... well he is deaf as a dodo, half blind and doesnt woof!

I have to laugh when my GSD plays with my mums little yorkie. My boy lies down, rolls over so the yorkie can jump on him and sticks his whole head in the sheps mouth!

I find it easiest to apologise for having a Lab and work your way up from there. I swore after Dragon Dog no more Labs, and definitely no more Lab puppies.

It appears I am my own worst enemy

I do wish people realised having a friendly dog is not a positive thing for the rest of the world though.
