Having a bit of an issue with other dogs...

He's obsessed with them, lol

My monster puppy is now 6 months old, he was well socialised as a little puppy and went to puppy classes, but he went lame about 8 weeks ago and has had to be on lead and on limited exercise since then.

Because he's on lead in areas where most dogs are off lead other owners are avoiding us :( lol, I would do the same and I would appreciate it if he was dog aggressive, but it's a bit frustrating to not be able to get close to say that he's very friendly and is only on the lead because he's got dodgy legs.

He's also not fit enough to go back to training classes, so he's only meeting other dogs when I can co-ordinate with friends so that's for all of ten minutes about once a week or so.

It's also probably relevant that he's recently grown an impressive set of furry pompoms

Anyway, the result is that he's obsessed with other dogs, to the point that I can't get his attention if there's one in sight and he's crying constantly and trying to get to them. If he does get close he throws himself at them in an overfriendly bundle of paws.

It makes him really hard work to walk and the dogs he does meet aren't best impressed with his manners.

My thinking on it is that I keep going with look at me and gradually it should get better? But I was just after any second opinions on if that's the right thing?

I am having the same problem with my 6 mnth old pup too. He ends up being walked on lead during week as the places in walking distance are very busy and he won't respond to me in any way uf there is a dog or even another person around. He is like a furry bullet!

I do watch me with him. Tbh he had inly just started to take any notice of me with that either. We did the puppy course and never got there! He is brilliant with clicker at home but he is dog mad and there is no treat or toy I have come accross that can compare!

Mine is a terrier and I find hr gets on better with huge dogs as he is too full on for most small dogs. Young spaniels don't seems to mind but he other than that it tends to be the huge ones!

He is worryingly taking to bunny hopping on two legs to try and get doggy attention which I need to discourage too. He carries on fussing and rudely leaping in faces even whrn getting a good warning which is why I can't risk him bombing off in park without me to some poor dog minding its own!

my seven month old JRT is a nightmare too at the moment.
He jumps up at the heads of any dog we come across, not aggressively at all,to play. Am scared he will grt this head bitten off!
he's booked in for his bits to be removed next tuesday,hope that calms him down a bit!

The biggest problem really is his size, lol, he's still only a pint sized rottie, but he's about 30kg now... It's just so hard to keep walking when he's going, there's a dog, there's a dog, there's a dog!

I am slightly relieved it's not just him, my last two dogs had issues with other dogs because of being badly socialised as youngsters (rescue dogs) and it took so much work to make them manageable that I'm possibly over thinking with this one anyway.

To be fair I wouldn't be leaving him off lead to bounce on other dogs anyway, but because he's never off, he's like a wee coiled spring full of energy and even if we do get close to other playful dogs, he can't play with them anyway.

He wears a head collar now because I was worried about him damaging his legs more while trying to throw himself about, so he is under control - its just not fun.
