So, getting a puppy, the update.

We are now waiting to have a home check from the rescue centre and then we will be able to check out some dogs. We have fallen in love with one from the photos and description but obviously we need to see her in person. Thanks very much to all who posted on my other thread and possibly saved me, and a dog, from long term stress and heartache. I will do a final update with pics when we have our new family member.

Going to meet Bramble, a stray saved from pts on the last day, one year old heinz 57 with a bit of pointer bit of setter, 1 year old, very skinny, needs lots of loving, will report back. Am so excited!!!!

Bramble sounds lovely - pointer/setter - great combination but sounds like he/she might needs lots of exercise! Not surprised you're excited. 1 yr old is a great age, past the puppyhood mania and (hopefully) chewing a lot. Pictures please as soon as you can...

she was an absolute beaut but massive and although she was lovely she didnt feel like 'our' dog. She'll make a lovely dog for someone but not us. However, we are going to look at another tomorrow, 15 month old staffie lab cross, been in foster care for about 6 weeks, got a really glowing report, will post again tomorrow! Thanks all...

Good luck, i have a staffie and they are lovely dogs, were getting a lab next week, apparently labs and Sataffies are the best dogs for kids so a mix of the both has to be good .

We went to look at recue pups a few days ago, i fell in love with another dog that was there (she felt like she could be mine), she was a lovely pointer cross collie, sadly because we already have a bitch i thought it would be best not to get another so i chose one of the pups (he is lovely) and we pick him up on monday.

How did it go today - with your visit to 15mth old staffie lab cross?

Again, huge, and the fosterer said the only staffie thing about her was her ears! Lovely but again not for us for several reasons. We are trying really hard to play the long game here, not just react to the tugging heart strings, but to wait until we find the dog that is our forever dog. These poor animals have been shifted from pillar to post, and to take one and then have to take it back seems a shame if we can just be patient.

Glad your holding out for the right one (its so easy to feel sorry for all of them and want the first one you see).

We took a while to decide what sort of dog we wanted, i wanted another Staffie, dh didn't so we ended up going for a lab puppy (a puppy because it would be easier to introduce a puppy to out bitch, though this could still go wrong). I think if i got another Staffie i would want another and then another as they are such loving dogs and there are so many needing homes.
