My puppy seems sad.

We have a 7 month old lab pup. On Friday we came home from a weeks holiday. While we were away pup stayed with my parents. They look after her every week while i am at work so she is used to them and their house.

While at my parents she mostly gets walks on her lead as they live in a town. We walk her mostly off lead as we live on a golf course.

Tonight she has been very quiet and subdued and has not budged from her crate. She seems very sad and dispirited.

I can't decide if she is unwell, sad because we left her or just exhausted from resuming her more boisterous walks.

Anyone have any views on this?

We used to sometimes leave our dogs with my parents if we went away - whether it be a weekend or a week. They both would have a great time. Lots of walks and lots of fuss.

When we got back my golden retriever used to growl at me. No one else, just me. As if to say how dare you go away and leave me. He would make a fuss of my husband and kids. In the end I used to ignore him and about 10 minutes later he would sidle up to me and put his head in my lap for a cuddle.

It was so funny.

If I went away my old Curly used to pointedly ignore me when I got back. She'd say hello to everyone else, look at me then turn her back and walk away. After about half an hour she would start following me again and go back to the velcro dog she usually was.

Keep an eye on her though, just in case she is coming down with something. There seems to be a dog tummy bug doing the rounds at the moment.

labradors sulk very very well. a friend took one of hers to the vet thinking she was ill or pregnant.

turns out she was sulking. once she'd been chosen to go shooting, she was right as rain.

nowt so strange as dogs.

I think she was sulking. She seems fine today, thankfully!
