What treats for pup with sensitive tummy?

Am feeding prescription Royal Canin dry food but really would like to use a training treat too. Any recommendations?

Use the same food as a training treat and reduce the amount fed at meal times accordingly

chicken is the only thing that doesn't upset my pups tummy.

Same food as for meals, you know it agrees with him, so keep to that until he is a bit older.

So chicken or his regular food then?

It depends on the dog. I would want to work out what he is sensitive to and that can only be done by an elimination diet.

So for six weeks I would only feed him one food. If you stick with the kibble you can make biscuits from it.
Soak the kibble in water until soft
Then press onto a baking tray
Cook on a low heat until the kibble becomes biscuit like
When cool cut into small biscuits shapes

The kibble biscuits taste slightly different to the dog than "normal kibble" and the cracking, breaking sound of the biscuit will be great for training treats.

I use chicken, cheese, bread, ham, sausage, hotdog. Anything that gets the focus on me that I need.

She eats BARF so I'm not slicing a cow's tongue or chicken wing.

her tummy before BARF was a right state but now it's not really affected by treats.

I give teeny tiny pieces.

We're working through a book about recall by pippa mattinson which recommends different quality of treats from average up to mega so we're going that route as a bomb proof recall is worth anything!

if royal canin doesn't work out for you, consider trying a BARF diet instead.

My dog has a sensitive stomach and does well on the Burns dry food- she loves it as a treat too.

James Well Beloved is a good food too for sensitive stomachs but I found it gave my dog rather smelly wind!

Jwb gave my pup pure liquid runs despite attempting a slow change. Wainwrights was nowhere near as bad but i'm afraid by the time we were at the 2 week stage and nearly fully changed he had terrible wind and sloppy pale poo.

I have begrudgingly had to accept that Eukanuba and chicken for treats suits him. I know it is expensive and not the best but he has solid firm dark poo. Do you know I don't think I have ever discussed poo as much as I have since we got a puppy!

haha! i am rather preoccupied with pup poop atm . He had a few days of lovely poos when i got the canin sensitive puppy food but he eats mud, grass any old wrappers in the park and he did get a sachet of cat foodbthree days ago which i think was thr culprit! The scavenging in the park doesnt seem to make him runny but all other treats do! Just feel guilty giving only one variety of food every meal forever

Most dogs eat the same food all the time, even if they've not got particularly sensitive stomachs it upsets their digestion when you change their food.

I would try and find something more exciting to use for training, mine just looks at me like this if I use his food, lol.

Chicken should be fine, you could try it and see...if he's fine with chicken you can then try other stuff as well.
