How to move house with a dog?

We are moving to a new, bigger house with extremedog on Friday and I was wondering if any of you had any tips about how to reduce the stress of the move?

Have never moved house with dogs before and would really like to avoid him having any accidents and such in the new place!

Any ideas?

I've moved a number of times with dogs. they do just fine, just keep an eye on him and door. If you have a few weeks before you move, you may want to refresh the potty training cues, or invent some. Then extremedog will hopefully have some continuity when moving.

My friend taught her dog to ring a bell on a sting when she wanted to go out. When they moved the dog had no problem with potty needs as she still rang the bell!

We've moved loads with our dogs and they've been fine too. In fact, completely unfazed tbh. They're with you and that's all they care about, I reckon.

Take him out to pee as soon as you get there so he knows where that's supposed to be. If he's a secret carpet pee-er (as one of my stupid dogs is), consider buying a cheap foldable gate just for the first few days to block off where you don't want them to get to. We're also a bell on a string family.

And also, if you have a fenced in garden, check it's properly fenced in before you let him out there.

If ExtremeDog will be with you on move day it's worth thinking about safety - especially if you're using a moving company who may not be used to keeping doors shut to stop dogs escaping. We only moved a short distance so booked our dog into daycare on moving day - they picked him up from our old house and dropped him back to the new house, giving us enough time to straighten up a bit so it wasn't totally chaos when he arrived.

We found a quiet place for his bed and made it nice and comfy, with a new chewy for him. He's quite a laid-back boy so he was quite happy with it all.
