Hairy labrador!

Does anyone know of a magic formula to stop my huge lab moulting continuously- everywhere? I can't keep up with the amount of hair that he is losing.

Can Labradors be clipped? I took hairy terrier to the dog wash yesterday and now he looks like a whippet X , no moulting today but he does look a bit strange without his beard and bushy eyebrows.

An interesting idea- I suppose you can but is it acceptable in the doggy world?

Do you brush him daily? We have 4 (3 labs and a goldie) and the all have to be brushed daily. They get brushed outside.

I haven't known anyone clip a lab I have to say!

You can give an oil supliment - ours get codliver oil once a week, but that is more to keep the skin healthy than the hair.

Labs are just hairy dogs! They have their winter coat on now so it will shed a lot indoors.

Just a case of grooming and sweeping all day long .

My yellow lab sheds too - my solution - lab coloured flooring throughout the house! You still have to hoover a lot but it is slightly less obvious. My pup also really hates being brushed. She runs and hides when i bring it out!

I keep my dog clipped mainly because its quicker to dry him after muddy runs , which is a twice daily occurrence here. He actually looks lovely clipped,just different ,I'm thinking of getting some clippers and trying it for myself I always used to clip my own horses but I'm not sure it's the same . Perhaps someone could tell me ?

I don't brush him a lot no. Maybe that is another job for the kids! I know labs moult but blimey, it just sometimes get too much!! I'll try brushing him and failing that, I'm going to clip him out and rug well just like we do with the nags!! haha!

Oh god. I feel your pain. I have a continually moulting chocolate lab. It drives me mad. she has a wonderful shiny coat though.

She is a lovely girl, but she will fill her own landfill site with shed hair over her lifetime!

A fulminator is a good thing for getting labs properly de haired. I aim to do mine about once a week and I get a good amount of undercoat out of them which makes a massive difference to the house.

Also, the food they eat can influence how much them moult - especially the volume of food given.

Actually it's so cold today that I did put his jumper on to go up the field and that goes straight in the wash and is easier to dry than the dog .
