what could be wrong with my dog?

im going to take her to the vets in the morning, im worrying what could be wrong
shes about 11yrs old and been slowing down alot over the last yr,shes always been so hyper and ready for a walk every five mins.

The last few days she has been very very quiet,sleeping all the time.usually gets up and greets me when i come in but hasnt.no wagging her tail when i talk to her. Behaviour like shes depressed?i have to encourage her to go out to toilet and shes a little unsteady on her legs.

i think shes in season(keeps licking her bum) but ive not known her to be like this before.shes not eaten her food today but did eat a leftover pork chop i fed her by hand
can anyone give advice on what could be wrong please?

Is there any discharge from her bottom or vagina?

I agree if she is unspayed then out of hours vet is the way to go. Much loved dog of a good friend died of pyometra. I hope she is ok, but she does sound unwell.

My childhood dog had pyometra. She was very, very poorly before we really noticed. I'd ring the OOH vet for advice I think if I were you. Our dog survived, btw, but she did need immediate surgery.

She was just very quiet. Depressed acting. Didn't really eat or show interest in anything. My Dad came in from work, took one look at her, and took her straight to the vet. She just wasn't herself at all. She had a temperature and was really quite ill at that stage. The vet operated immediately, and she went on to live to 14 (she was 2 when she got poorly).

If she hasn't recently had a season, it's less likely to be a pyo.

Can you take her temperature?

It sounds like an infected or over full anal gland is possible. Which bit of her bottom is she licking?

Try blotting both her vulva and anus with a tissue. That will clear up the discharge issue. The reluctance with tail movement does point to discomfort with her anus.

Hope the vet has worked out what is wrong and she will be better soon op.

How is she today?

shes been absolutly fine,little madam had me worried all night. she woke me at 4am to go out for a wee, came in and wolfed her tea down.been for a walk after she brought her lead to me and had waggy tails again since.

she hates the cold weather always has since a pup so i think might have something to do with her being quiet.i put a hot water bottle under her bed last night.

I think you should get vet to check her over, even if she seems more perky, as she could have something going on that is making her feel unwell. Dogs do hide being ill quite well and so if they are looking different in some way then I think it should be checked out.
