We have 2 lovely labs and are looking to adopt another rescue lab. Our old girl is 14 but still enjoying her walks and food. Our other dog is a bouncy 5 year old. Are there any particular age/sex combinations that work particularly well or is it simply down to the personalities of the individual animals? Your thoughts and experiences are welcomed!

I think older girls tend to prefer boys, we've got an old girl and a young girl and the old girl doesn't like the young one that much, we try to keep them apart, but whenever there is a young boy around she loves them.
When we go for walks the older one still protects the younger one.

That makes sense, LD. We've a home-visit next week from one of the rescue organisations to check our suitability - I think we'll be deemed to be ok! - and the assessor will meet our dogs and form opinions about our needs. Can't wait!

I'd suggest a boy too. We had an older bitch and a young one when we adopted a 6 month old golden retriever. Both girls loved him and seemed a lot happier together when he was around.
