My friend has been thinking of getting a puppy for some time and has settled on a Cavachon.........any wisdom/experience about dogs of this mix would be gratefully received.

Oh FFS, some of us are getting sick of this designer mongrel bollocks.

No, your friend should not buy one of these puppies, not if she cares about dogs. Cavachon is not a breed, it is a mongrel with clever sounding name. This means it was not bred by a breeder who cares about the breed, health checks the dogs before breeding from them, will literally go to the far corners of the earth to get the sperm from the best matched dog, follows the veterinary guidelines on number and frequency of litters etc etc.

It has been bred for money by a scumbag breeder who is nonetheless savvy enough to realise that if you breed two dogs from whom you can make an amusing name - cockerpoo, labradoodle, jackabee, cavachon etc, you'll always find someone stupid enough to buy one.

The breeding bitch has almost 99% certainly been kept in appalling conditions - just Google Images of 'puppy farms', show your friend and ask her if she honestly wants to support this industry.

Then tell her to either find a very very responsible breeder for a pedigree or better still, go to a rescue.

Um - the puppy is from a mutual friend's bitch (her beloved pet) and the mutual friend's brother dog (his beloved pet) is the sire. Am well versed in puppy farms and am is as vociferously anti as you, so I do understand your anger..........unjustified in the case though as I only wanted any info on people's experience of this mix.

So they've both done all relevant health checks on both dogs?

What Rhinstone says. At worst it will be from a puppy farm and at best it will be from an enthusiastic amateur who really shouldn't be breeding their randomly selected dogs when rescues and pounds are fit to burst with dogs, many of them through no fault of their own.

Cross posts. So enthusiastic amateurs then. It really doesn't matter how beloved their pets are. Can you really not see what is wrong with a brother and sister sticking their different breed dogs together for a litter when we is have a dog welfare crisis?

So they're back yard breeders. They're still breeding for money when there's thousands of healthy dogs being pts every year because there aren't enough homes for them.

And if your mutual friend can't sell the pups, what happens then?

I can't fully answer your question Lurcherlover as I am not close enough to the situation. But my friend assures me the owner of the Cavalier who had the puppies consulted the vet thoroughly before and throughout the whole pregnancy.

My own dog is a rescue dog. I will pass all your comments on to my friend.

There were only three puppies. 2 are going to friends free of charge and she intends to keep the remaining pup.
