Flea's is there anything else other than advocate (sp) that works?

Both the cat and dog have fleas and both dd's are bing bitten . We usualy use advocate from the vets but money is tight, to get treatment for both animals will be £50 plus for a good spay for the house will be another £15.

Is there anything else that is just as effective? i know the answer will probably be 'no'. We have tried front line but has no effect what so ever.

Seresto collar is as effective as advocate and over the 8months it lasts it is much cheaper than advocate, but obviously costs up front.

Thank you, i have ordered the house spray (indorax) from Amazon and am going to try advantage as it has good reviews and is cheaper than advocate. The cat is the main problem, the dog has very short hair and is white so they dont tend to stay on her so probably more on the cat and in the rugs . Poor dd2 had one in her hair the other day (the cat sleeps on her bed).

Advantage is just as good as advocate for fleas, it has the same ingredient imidocloprid, but it does not do intestinal worms, lungworms etc. You need to treat all your animals, the white fur, short coat thing is irrelevant. They will also need to be treated for tapeworm as fleas normally carry this, you should be able to buy drontal over the counter form a vet or pharmacy. make sure you treat he whole house and the car with the indorex. It works best if you utilise warmth, humidity, noise and vibration to make any fleas in the pupal stage hatch out. central heating on, bowl of water on the radiator, Hoover the room first and then spray, concentrating underneath heavy furniture that is not often moved and round skirting boards.

Thank you, we got drontl from the vets, the flea treatments should be here tomorrow (i hope), i will hoover before spraying. Cant wait to be flea (and worm) free and i must remember to keep up with the worm treatment every 4 weeks.

I can recommend you use flea powder on carpets, then vacuum it, then use foggers around house which will keep working to break the life cycle of the fleas. You can also put bedding in a bag, in the freezer for a couple of nights, then wash.

We have a Seresto Collar in summer [the ticks near us are awful] and I also use Drontal and Advocate for the various protection/treatments they offer.

Just a word of warning - leave a couple of weeks before between using the flea treatment and Drontal, don't do them at the same time as they can react and cause fits.
