Pup started barking all night again. Cannot cope with this.

he settled after 4 nights really brilliantly in his crate but the last two nights he has been barking in there again. Last night was all night on and off. . i am ill and exhausted and today I cannot be arsed to play with him at all, let alone my children . What can I do? I don't think anything will work. Ever. I dont want to leave him loose in lounge as he will wreck the place. I think he eas sick in his crate too . wtf can i do???

Well you could put the crate in your bedroom for a few nights and then gradually move him away. This might help him settle or he might get even more frantic as you are close put he cannot quite get to you, the former is more likely but the later is possible. Personally I would just stick him in your bed for now and move him into a basket in your room when he is a bit older. But the all my dogs have always slept with me, as did my kids. I will do anything to avoid broken sleep

Good luck, whatever you do he will get there, the puppy stage can be very trying at times in all different ways.

I think I'd be tempted to try having the crate in my room with the hope of being able to slowly move it back downstairs after a couple of peaceful weeks if I was you. But its one of those each to their own things about whether you can cope with him upstairs (in case you never get him down!)

i think i will just have him in my room. i know he wouls settle there. i will use the crate for daytimes downstairs when i need to. but that way at least i will get some sleep. Maybe in time i can move him to the landing but the overnight crating is not working for sure. no one else shares my bed (apart from my 6 yr old ds sometimes. Just concerned about the housetraining aspect

gobblersknob i missed your post. yes i will try him uncrated in my room tonight. he doesn't seem to wee at night. Just hope he doesnt want to get up at x530am!!!

I find puppies sleep longer when they are with you as they feel more secure, curled up next to you they tend to snooze on. That said I have no idea what puppy you have, if it is a springer, it will probably be using your face as a trampoline at 5am

gobblersknob- he is a rescue pup. Lab x with goodness knows what! Llama I think! Defo not Springer. more likely pointer, lurcher, whippetty type dog. long legs and lean back but defo lab as Mum was yellow lab

oh and he is 13 weeks but only arrived here Sunday

Ah, if there's a touch of a pointy thing (as in the running type, greyhound, whippet etc etc) and some lab then hopefully you should have yourself a sleeper I have a whippet and he hasn't even been arsed to get up yet, he will be nested somewhere deep in the duvet. If he feels like it he will probably make an apearance about 10

Definately have him in your room, dogs make great hot water bottles :) My doglittle bastard does tend to want out once during the night, but i make DP do it. Really don't like the thought of a dog in a cage for up to 8 hours, why would anyone think that is is a good idea?

I had this with my puppy. I bought a secondhand babydan playpen and fixed that up round the crate with the crate door open with cable ties. He had more space but was still enclosed if you get what I mean.

This worked really well and he was much happier.

If you really want to continue with the crate, you might be better moving it upstairs to your room so he feels more secure?

Last night I had hard time with my cat 9y old however i know her, it was because of fireworks going on around our house. Don't forget that animals have a very good hearing and specially a pup can get really scared in this situation. Try to cover with a blanket his crate to create a secure space, also a soft toy with your sent can help too. Keep calm and ignore him, no petting, no talking to him while you are with him in the same room till he settle down . Remember! he will get tired much quicker then you. Then you can go to sleep!
