Tell me how to stop dog aggression?

Ok, our rescue seems to hate other dogs! She has had two meets now on neutral grounds (park) and has gone for both dogs after initial seconds of smelling! Soo worried she will always be like this. She's now 4 months old. Is there hope for her to work through this?

Yep if you help her in the correct way you will be able to change this behaviour.

Do not get cross, do not listen to anyone who says shout at her, tell her off, pin her to the ground, spray water at her, use a bottle of stones and rattle at her, etc.

You need to change her emotional response to dogs. So she has no need to react as she is doing at the moment

Work below threshold at all times , so be prepared to avoid meeting dogs to start with, cross the road, change directions etc until she is happier.

Three things to teach her

1. Lets go. With her on a lead and a really yummy treat Cheese hot dog liver cake etc turn very quickly in the opposite direction saying lets go the minute she turns to be with you click and treat. Do this in your garden to start with then do it out and about. When ever you get in to a situation that she is not happy with say lets go and turn away quickly. This give her time to get used to situations without them making her more anxious.

1. Teach her a look dog. Get her to look at dogs from a great distance so there is no reaction from her at all. Click and treat. Then she will very soon understand that dogs are fine, no need for her to get upset. You can very gradually move nearer to the dogs over time and begin to use more excitable dogs. Do this over a period of months though not days.

1. You should see some improvements in some situations quite quickly but will of course get caught out by dogs approaching and coming at you quickly. If you do not see any improvements then you need to start BAT which is fantastic at helping reactive dogs and is 100% successful in my experience.

Be patience with her - she is a scaredy girl who has a lot to learn, the bond she will get from you though for being patience with her will be fantastic. She will soon be a dog in a million
