Dog stuff for the car

With the weather getting colder/muddier I am looking for some things for the car but am getting overwhelmed by the choose, what do other people use.

Dog is 7 JRT, I need something to stop the car getting covered in mud after walks - do I want a dog towel or a seat cover? Also something for him to snuggle into if he is in car while I nip into shops etc preferably something that doesn't smell and need to be washed every couple of days.

I don't use a crate as boot is always full of DDs wheelchair and other bits, dog usually just curls up in footwell. He has travelled all over Europe with us so treats the car as a mini house.

We were using a travel crate in the boot but increasingly lately have just been putting Daisy in the boot lying on a couple of the cheap (£1.50?) Ikea light blue fleece blankets. They wash brilliantly and dry in no time at all.

We have some of the idea rugs but was thinking of something more waterproof as he is getting older...or am I just getting suckered into buying more things we don't need !

I have a crate in the boot, lined with one of those dirt grabber mats. It keeps most of the mud contained. I have a Springer Spaniel who is always in water or lying in muddy puddles on walks so could never let him travel in the car itself

I have a single duvet with a normal removable, washable cover on the back seat. They have car clips,that you clip onto their own harness & attach to the seat belt anchor, to keep them safely on the seat( & the duvet) Got the clips cheaply from Pets at Home.

I love the look of the dirt grabber mats, think I need some for the house.
