What do you hear yourself repeating to your child, in relation to your dog?

I say, almost daily:

"Don't get bitten" in a low, warning voice to wild DS1, 4. We have a Border collie

He knows it means, slow down, calm down or move away from the dog with the dilated pupils. Today I thought 'I wonder how many other Bc owners people say that to their children!

"watch that sandwich/ biscuit/ edible item!!"

we have a beagle. On constant food patrol

'yuk, no tongues' - ds2 on very intimate terms with pup, they lie on the floor snuggling while she licks his face, yeuch. and 'I can see you' when he feeds her under the table.

oh, 'watch that (edible item)' too!

'that's enough cuddles' We have a very laid back king Charles and a very over affectionate dd who may actually squash him to death.

'the dog is not a horse' he constanly wants to sit on him, he thinks he sits on my lap for a cuddle then he does the same to the dog.

DD2 (5) constantly gets "if he bites you it will be your fault" she is always running, jumping, screaming, waving sticks in air at our Lab Collie cross and he thinks she is the naughty sheep to be nipped back into control

Other 3 DCs don't ever get him even vaguely wound up its just her and she sees it as a daily challenge to make his eyes go wide and his mouth open as he pants. One of the reasons why I currently have pimmsdog under mummy arrest and he has to be with me all the time

That sounds familiar Pimms. My BC is 14 now but still does the wide-eyed-skid-across-the-kitchen-floor-nip-at-clothing. DS then does the wide eyed stare in shock at me.

I then say the oft repeated line 'well what did you think would happen/I did tell you/similar unhelpful and annoying comment'

Not sure if you mean this, but I constantly say 'Come' to the children, and I only wish they were as obedient as the dog!!!!

"No! that food is for the dog!" as I prise yet another piece of dog kibble out of her mouth to 13 month old dd

I don't have a dog but 3 cats and keep finding myself saying "good boy" to 13mo DS.

I also had to tell him last week not to use the cat as a xylophone and not to stick his finger up the cats bum.

Another one with a DC who likes dog kibble, I must say it twenty times a day "DC3 that's dog food not your food give it to the dog" I swear she picks up a handful everytime she is in the kitchen and is constandly eating it... YUCK!!

Luckily the dogs don't mind sharing :-s

All in relation to ds 10 months who thinks he is a dog and will not leave the poor thing alone..

I do also tell the kids sometimes 'Sit!' and fairly frequently use the dogs name by mistake.. In my defence dog is 11 and eldest child is 5 so I've been using the dogs name more....

If you lie on top of her and she growls, it means she is not enjoying it. She is telling you very clearly to move away.
