Want a dog; where to start!

My family and I would love a dog and are about to start looking...

We are based in the North East.

We would like a small-medium dog, preferably not a terrier. Not a staffie* which the rescues seem to be brimming with. We're open to rehoming - not necessarily a pup.

Any tips - things to consider, or where to look?

*We have cats and wouldn't be comfortable with a staff.

Adopt a Dog North East is run by a friend of mine, she absolutely would not mind if you called her for a chat to discuss options, not just from their rescue but other local rescues and tips on choosing a breeder if that was the route you wanted to go. They have some family suitable small/medium dogs in at the moment, as well as some giant family suitable ones. Grin
