How do you exercise a tiny puppy?

He's 9 weeks old so I can't walk him yet, obviously I play with him and we're doing basic training, but what happened yesterday was that it poured down all day...he doesn't like wet ground, we live in Scotland Hmm lol

So last night he was completely hyper, to the point where you couldn't even play with him as he was just too manic - I know it was because he didn't get to play in the garden yesterday, but dear god it was exhausting.

His recall's fairly good (given his age, lol) his sit is fantastic Grin We're getting there with drop (whatever he has) I'm starting on down...that's taking a while for him to grasp the concept of, lol. So obviously we run through all of those, but even doing all of them doesn't take that long and down we can only do so many times before he loses interest at the moment.

Any ideas for things I can do with him through the day that will burn off a bit of steam in case he doesn't get used to heavy rain quickly?

you could play hide & seek!

get some one to sit/hold puppy in one room, you go to another room and call (also good for recall) then the puppy is let go to run around to find you, recieving a treat of course Grin

I did this with when my dog was younger, she didnt - still doesnt like rain or wet floors Hmm

have fun!

How big is he? I used to take ours out in one of those dog carriers before he was allowed out properly and he would get a lot of interest just watching the world go by outside a cafe etc, mental stimulation can wear them out as much as physical exercise Smile. Also gets them used to sights and sounds early on, people come up and say hello, noisy lorries going by etc

We've been doing that in the same room...if we're all in, it does take him a while to work out who's calling him, bless, lol, from the other room could work.

I'm hoping he grows out of the wet ground thing - it's funny just now as he minces about the garden looking at you in horror as his paws get soggy and trying to make a run back for the house...

He was 5 kilos last week when he had his first injection and he's grown since (He's a rottie)...I have been carrying him if I go somewhere, but I don't think I'd manage him in something and it's only for the next wee while.

Yeah going out makes him comatose, even though he hasn't done anything, he's been to other people's houses, my DP's work for half an hour while I do paperwork and dropping off DC at clubs and what have you.

I'll be able to walk him in about a week and a half, and he's signed up for puppy classes a few weeks after that, but there are obviously going to be days that I've nowhere to take him and given that it rains most days, lol, I draw the line at walking a dog that I have to carry just for the sake of it in the rain, we'll be doing walks in the rain soon enough Smile
