We're planning to take DDog on his holidays quite soon, so have been having his vaccines/pet passport organised.
The law around rabies vaccinations has recently changed, and it is no longer a legal requirement to have a blood test post vaccination to check that the vaccine has worked.
Being the paranoid cautious type, I insisted that the vet do a blood test to check that it had been successful, to my shock, it hadn't worked!
Just wanted to make you all aware that the vaccine quite clearly isn't successful in 100% of cases; legally DDog could have traveled to Europe but he would have been completely unprotected
If you are having rabies vaccinations done, please have the blood test to make sure your dog is protected, I'm so pleased that we did.
I'm actually really cross that pressure from the EU means that we have scrapped the requirement to have this blood test done. Can't help but think it won't be long before rabies rears its ugly head in the UK
Anyway, just wanted to share this rather worrying piece of news.
