scar looks lumpy after spaying

pup (6mo) was spayed last wednesday. she has just gone to sleep splayed on her back, as she does, and the incision looks a bit lumpy or bulgy. it is not red or weepy at all, a clean dry line. I will call the vet in the morning of course to check but can anyone offer experience? I am feeling anxious that she has been doing too much - she has gone up and down the stairs quite a few times when the kids left doors open, and she is very frisky so hard to keep calm and quiet. we've also been doing lead walks from the day after because the nurse said that was OK. could she possibly have ruptured one of the internal layers of stitching? i'm worried.

Your vet should have scheduled in a post -op check up, usually a week after the operation, and that would usually be the right time to check. If it's clean and dry but a bit lumpy/bumpy, that's normal, and can just be where there's a little bit of fluid and the tissue is settling down.

One of those things where it'd be great to see a pic! Give the surgery a call in the morning if you are still worried - they will be happy to help.

thanks very much - she was checked on friday, and he was happy with it then but I am pretty sure it has got lumpier since. she seems quite happy in herself so I will stop googling and freaking out and call in the morning!

Aha I had the same thing with my Lab (got very lumpy and appeared reddened) five months after speying so bad I thought she had a hernia (and I know about dogs!) Took her to the vets and was told the internal stiches can take up to six months to settle down. She was fine.

yes, that's what it was - scar tissue forming around the internal stitches. he did say it was probably aggravated by activity, so I do feel bad about that, but it is not doing her any harm. thanks for your help!
