Best dry food for dog with dental issues?

Hi, our dog has been on Nature Diet wet food for some time and quite happy on it.

However, she's had a build up of plaque which the vet attributes to being on a wet food diet and required a dental under GA earlier this year.

For the last 6 months she's been on a regime of nature diet with a layer of TD dental food underneath, regular brushing and dentastix.

Today I've noticed her teeth are already in plaque again. The vet assures me this is due to her wet food diet so I jsut wondered if anybody could recommend a decent dry food? She used to be on Burns and got on OK with that.

I'm not keens on the BARF diet as she just isn't really interested in bones.

we use harringtons from tesco for our gsd/rottweiler. she has a very dodgy tummy and we have to be careful but this has been fab for her tummy and teeth :)

Our lad gets raw meaty bones now and then, either cows shin bone or lamb ribs that I got at Morrisons, they sell them to make stock with.

Nothing keeps thier teeth cleaner than gnawing on a bone, has to be raw though, cooked bones can splinter.

We use Harringtons too - the lamb one - for our Greyhound with dodgy teeth. I say the lamb one because we had the turkey before. We switched him because they'd run out of the turkey onto a small bag of the lamb and found immediately that his poos were smaller, harder and just generally better.

Lots of people recommend Burns or James Wellbeloved but we've never tried them as our local supermarket/pet shop doesn't sell them.

I don't know about the teeth side so much but it suits his tum and that was our biggest problem when we adopted him.

Oopps forgot to add that our dog eats Waitwrites wet and dry food, 1/2 a tray mixed with a good handful of the dry 2x a day.

try natures menu raw feeding, i didnt like the idea of bones for my puppy but its available in free flow mince and nuggets, not sure if any other tbh. its all ground up so the dog wont really have to tackle bones.

i have a pomeranian - a breed prone to tooth loss and her teeth (and breath) are great.

im no expert only been a dog owner for 2mths. every one will say what works for their dog. so i guess its trial and error really.

Will your dog let you brush their teeth? This is the best way to prevent the build up of plaque along with the feeding of TD.

Thanks all - wiggy, she's good about letting me brush but it doesn't seem to be preventing the plaque :( or at least, not all of it.

Being able to get it in tesco would be a bonus, actually, so I might try harringtons. Thank you.

I give our dog raw carrots 2-3 times a week, and it really seems to help with the plaque. I also give him the non-brushing toothpaste a couple of times a week. He happily slathers it all around his teeth, and it stops his breath smelling of arse.

Ooh, chickens. I will try carrots, thanks. What is this non-brushing toothpaste of which you speak? I'm all for non-arse smelling breath.

I got it in Pets At Home. It's something and camomile. You just give them a spoonful of it, and it sticks to their teeth. Then as they lick it off, their teeth get some kind of clean. Jas seems to like it, and I don't have to stick my finger in his mouth
