Dog with something sticking out of his bottoom

My brother is looking after my sisters dog and brought him to visit today...the dog is getting on a bit maybe 10 years old.

He seems happy enough but I noticed something grey and round sticking out of his bottom.

It didn't seem to bother him and my brother had no idea what it was....should I tell my sister to take him to the vet? Is it dangerous? I hate the idea of him suffering.

it looks solid and greyish...dry looking rather than red or anything...it's organic I can see that. Nothing he's eaten.

It could be an anal gland I suppose...he's not walked often enough imo and his nails are too long....Sad

Mine once had a 50p coming out of his bum - Queens head side up.

One of mine once had a kitchen floor cloth coming out. She spent two days walking round with more & more of it hanging out till she passed it all.
She also does socks but manages to pass them all at once.
