Blood tests

Our 11 yr old Border Terrier had blood tests on monday for diabetes. The poor dog is such a wimp she found it all very stressful. However, I called the vets yesterday for the results and was told the lab were having trouble with the sample as some of it had clotted, and they may need more blood.

I am presuming I will not have to pay again for extra blood tests - what do you think.

Unlikely I would have thought

Unlikely, but also ask if they have an in house glucometer so you can get a there and then glucose reading to know one way or the other about the diabetes. If you have glucose in the urine and high blood glucose this is sufficient to diagnoses diabetes.

OK, so it's not diabetes. Vet wants to do Cushings Disease test next.

We are having the second blood tests repeated for free (liver and anemia) plus Cushings test all done in one go next wednesday. Poor thing. She seems so fed up all the time.

Being depressed is a feature of cushings disease and this can be controlled very easily.

Thanks Lizcat. I hadn't thought about it like that (depression). I hope something shows up soon, at least just to have a reason for her change in behaviour. I hate not knowing.
