Toilet Training An Older Puppy

Hi, we're picking up a 15 month old puppy(?) at the weekend. She's not house trained and hasn't ever lived in a house. I've bought a crate, because a friend used one. We haven't had a puppy for over 20 years, we usually have older rescue dogs.

Am panicking a bit, so any advice would be very welcome! Grin

Well how lovely, getting a new pup!

I would presume it is exactly the same as when you get an 8 week old pup. In and out every 2 hours malarky. Lots of praise when she does the deed and back indoors again. I would think she would get the hang quite quickly.

When we got our pup he was about 16 weeks and we basically took him out really often and when outside kept saying "go quickly" and really praised when he did something. Quite quickly he got the idea and now at just over 2 years will go or at least try to go on command which is very convenient! If they have an accident just ignore it and clean up really thoroughly and personally I would not use any sort of paper or training pads indoors as I think this just confuses the puppy as to where he should be going. Good luck and have fun with your pup
