Not asking for advice here (although would welcome any Smile ) just really sharing, to feel less traumatised IYSWIM.

FentonPup hurt his leg this weekend, we were out for a woodland walk, he was off the lead behaving beautifully then got spooked by a squirrel Hmm and went for a scramble through some broken branches - got back under control and continued the walk. It was only when we sat for a rest before driving home that I noticed a nasty cut on the front of his paw - I mean it was a gaping great slash of a cut - wasn't bleeding much or bothering him but my god it was a flap of skin/fur Shock.

We flushed it as best as possible with his drinking water then bandaged - no fuss from him. Spoke to the OOH vet (who was lovely and calm Thanks ) who gave advice about cleaning and dressing etc. Got him home with dressings ready - flushed again with slightly salted water and re-dressed. He was so, so good and calm and just let me get on with it (shaking and stressing as I was) and licking my face to encourage me to complete the task.

I just love that dog so much and want to thank him for being so calm and relaxed about it, and getting me through a very difficult task. Don't wish to sound over dramatic in that, but I have always been very squeamish when it comes to injuries to animals and children.

What a lovely boy he sounds. And well done you for cleaning and dressing. I think I'd have been a nervous wreck. I tend to piss myself laughing when my kids fall over but if the dog's hurts I'm always on the brink of tears Hmm
