pollen allergy?

Eric is getting ever so sore and red and bumpy underneath, and really raw round his back legs. he had it midly since spring but we have been away and where he has been staying he has spent most of his days in grass fields. I have bathed it in cooled bboiled water with tea tree in it, is this ok to do. Should i be bathing him more? what else can I do?

Give him some Piriton. Dose depending on size, how big is he?

One of mine has bad allergies, pollen plus various other things. The vet prescribed Piriton but now I just buy it over the counter as if's much cheaper. The vet gave me a pill splitter which is great for cutting those tiny pills if he just needs a part pill.
Mine's a Yorkie & the dose is quarter of a Piriton, three time a day if needed but sometimes he only needs one.

he is a cocker spaiel, but very small about 11kg so probably twice a yorkie. willl get some tommorow, kids or normal?

I should think half a pill would be right. My little one is 4kg.

my staffy is about 20kg and has one piriton twice daily. we give it with an evening primrose oil capsule as this is meant to make the pirton more effective (don't know why, just what we were told by vet few years ago).

make sure it is the regular piriton not the non-drowsy one

meant to say - aloe vera gel is good for soothing allergy affected skin. can be kept in fridge too to make it nice and cooling.

Our whippety lurcher came down with hives all over his legs and belly after running in long grass whilst at the dog-sitter (we were on holiday abroad)

She bathed it in cool water and applied aloe vera straight from the plant (after phoning the vet for advice)

The rash faded from red to pink within 24 hours and scabbed over not long after.

thanks for the advice, I think it will be ongoing as it was coming up before he went but has flared up really badly while he was away. I will get some aloe vera from holland and barratt and we are looking at clothing to stop him bothering it (his back leg is getting ever so sore), I am leaving the piriton for a last resort but have some in the cupboard of it seems to be driving him mad.

right have got piriton as well as his back legs are just getting worse. only given him one so far (well half) bathing him and putting his lovely new pjs on to stop him chewing at it.

You may need Atopica from the vets. They will do a sensitivity test to work out what he is allergic to as it is often more than one thing. My greyhound is reactive to dust mites and pollen. Antihistamine isn't strong enough to suppress his allergy so he needs the proper stuff and Atopica is the only effective thing. Keep your fingers crossed that the Piriton works as Atopica is fearsomely expensive unless you are insured.
