Our lab was a real little crocodile when younger. What worked for us was a sharp 'ah, ah' and then put him down if he was in our arms (although he was too big at 6 months) or stop play immediately and ignore him. It did take a while but it worked for us. it was no fun for him if we wouldn't play so he didn't do it. Now if he is getting a bit too excited he knows 'ah ah' means I better stop. Good luck

If you squeal in a high pitched loud way when he does it it will shock him into stopping. We learnt this on It's Me or the Dog. Apparently it reflects the way a sibling would behave if bitten as tiny pup. It certainly works with our Jack Russell who tends to mouth your hands. If you don't nip the behaviour in the bud somebody could get hurt.

My puppy is doing this. Tried the Yelp and then ignoring him/ stopping playing but he doesn’t seem to care. Anyone got any more suggestions please?

Wolfiefan · 11/09/2021 22:08

Puppies bite.
Don’t let them get near your face!
Ensure there is always something you are happy for them to bite and give them that. Don’t yelp. It can over excite them.
Tired puppies are mega bitey. Ensure enough rest time.

Why are you picking him up? There might be a clue in that.

Cherry321 · 11/09/2021 22:18

@Wolfiefan yes he’s is probably more tired than usual tonight. I will try not to Yelp.

@BloodyDetails I was sitting on the floor with him as he’s not allowed on the furniture.

Sorry just seen the original poster was picking their puppy up. Should have started a new thread.
