Would anyone know what this lump may be?

Our dog lived with a 'foster family' for a couple of months whilst I was in hospital a while back and DH had lots on his plate. It was a family vetted by a charity that specialises in these things.

When DH got her back, she had an odd black lump on her muzzle. He didn't notice it at the time and we have no way realistically of asking when/how it appeared.

I've noticed recently that it's getting bigger. It's black in colour, and is about the size of a drawing pin head (although quite sticky-outy) and it has hair growing from it. Do you think it could just be a wart?

She lets me touch it, but she's very docile and let me touch her leg when she snapped her cruchet ligament! So I'm not sure if it really hurts her or not. She does close her eyes though which suggests it may be tender.

She's getting on a bit (she's a ten year old collie cross) and obviously my mind jumps to awful lump theorie. I was thinking of taking her to the vets but I didn't want to be accused of being PFD (precious first dog Grin )

Go to the vet and get it checked. If it is cancer, then the sooner it is removed the better.

Could be a wart, could be a blocked hair follicle, but it could be something serious...I'd take her to get it checked, just in case.

Get it checked, it could simply be a sebaceous cyst or blocked hair follicle - but it needs checking

Mine got one of these on his ear, although it was pink. The vet said to leave it, and it grew to the size of a baked bean, before going a bit crusty and falling off.

Thank you everyone. Of course you're right, and I made the stupid mistake of googling it and the word TUMOUR seemed to appear in giant letters!

Hopefully it will be the same as picnic's dog, but will make vet's appt tomorrow.

Sounds most like a wart.
