Puppy's first season - or is it?

First time I've ever had a puppy, so need some advice from experienced owners. She is a 7 month old Heinz 57, medium sized.

The other day there were some spots of blood on the floor and since then she has been cleaning herself like mad. Haven't seen any other signs of blood, nor discharge and I've tried checking with tissue now and then.

Her vulva is not noticeably swollen but it has changed position and instead of lying down is sort of tilted up, if that makes sense. Her nipples have become also become noticeable.

I'm presuming this is her in season but would appreciate any advice.

We are just walking on lead at the moment anyway and early mornings cos its very hot here in Morocco and the garden is well protected.

Still no idea if she is in season or not due to absence of signs of blood ....any help out there?

If she's keeping herself clean you might not see much blood at all.
It sounds like she is in season, she's the right age for it.
Her vulva won't really swell till she gets to the stage in her season when she's ready for mating, usually somewhere around day 9 to 11, though they vary a huge amount. The blood will stop then anyway & the discharge will become clear & more viscous. That's when you really, really need to keep her indoors away from other dogs. This stage can last a week, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.
Her immunity will plummet too, natures way of allowing any fertilised eggs to implant, but it does mean she can be more prone to picking up germs.
A full season usually lasts around three weeks from the first to last day. You will tell she's through it when her vulva returns to normal size & there's no more discharge. Her nipples won 't go back as small as before though.

Go for a walk the moment you get home before she has a time to lick wipe her vulva with damp cotton wool. I'd lay money you'll see blood and she is in season.

I'll do that Lizcat thanks so much for the advice!
