Help! My puppy just had a long white thing coming out...

of her butt when she was trying to go to the toilet. I thought she'd been eating my thread and pulled it out gently with a wipe. It then moved!!!! It looks like spaghetti and is about 3 inches long!

Looking on the internet it seems it might be a roundworm. The breeder told us she'd been wormed and when they vet weighed her she said she'd have to wait for her next dose till 12 weeks as her weight was too small.

We've booked an appointment for this afternoon, but will she be ok? We have another dog (who has been wormed regularly) and what about my 2 dc? Any special precautions??

I'm off to throw up...

Yes, it is a worm. Is she under weight?

JennerOSity · 26/07/2012 13:31

Uh-oh - I'd get veterinary advice, depending on the type of worm it could be shedding microscopic eggs in your home which could transfer to the humans. If so, it may need to be housed in a contained way to control until the worm/s can be eliminated.

round worm. Get him wormed asap

TangoSierra · 26/07/2012 13:34

Your vet will give you another wormer. When was the last worming? At how many weeks?

daisydotandgertie · 26/07/2012 13:42

How old is she? And how long is it since she was last wormed and what did they use?

When were her last jabs and were they the first or second set?

I would get hold of some Panacur immediately, weigh her and give her the correct dose. I wouldn't bother with the vet if it is just worms you're concerned about.

Ideally they should be wormed every other week - has she been?

PantsOnFiore · 26/07/2012 14:13

Hello

When we had her from the breeder at 8 weeks we were told she'd been wormed regularly Hmm

We took her to the vets the next day and she had her first injection. The vet didn't worm her again because she'd already been done (allegedly) and she was a really low weight.

She was due to go back next week for her second injection and the worming but after seeing that white thing I'm taking her this afternoon!

She has put on a lot of weight since being with us, or at least looks like she has, perhaps its a bloated tummy from the worms??

anklebitersmum · 26/07/2012 14:46

bloated tummy...get yourself some prispen for the family just in case Sad

good luck-the vet'll sort her out no dramas.

PantsOnFiore · 26/07/2012 19:25

Thank you all, she has been wormed by vet and we have stuff to give her twice daily, then she needs to go back in two weeks for her normal wormer.

Apparently we need to brace ourselves for the deluge of dead worms that will now be coming our way Grin
