Well the Bastards won in the end

BBC Report

But the BBC has fucked up as well - first line of the report: "Lennox, an illegal pit-bull terrier type dog.."

The whole point of the campaign being that he WASN'T a Pitt Bull Terrier.

I am gutted for him, gutted for his humans. Gutted for the little girl who wanted her best friend back. Gutted for all the people in all the other countries that offered to take him - and BCC wouldn't back down.

AND the fuckers didn't even let the family see him before they killed him - and will cremate him against the familiy's wishes.

BASTARDS.

"Could be something the dog wardens made up."

Are you suggesting that they've had Lennox pts because of lies? Wink

Lots of dogs can show 'aggressive' (usually in fact defensive or fearful) behaviours towards strangers. They aren't usually taken away, imprisoned and killed for it though, unless they happen to have the wrong measurements and hence considered a dangerous 'type'.

The dog was muzzled and leashed in public as required by law, he had never bitten or harmed anyone, there were many offers of suitable homes for him. He was not a danger to anyone. There is no sense or reason to this poor dog being killed.

Ephiny · 11/07/2012 14:14

And there is already evidence that one of the dog wardens lied - the one who claimed to be afraid of the dog and unable to approach/handle him, while a video showed her happily playing with him. This was not a fair trial, and the outcome was decided from the start IMO.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 11/07/2012 14:17

I am saddened and disgusted by this whole sorry saga. But not surprised this dog has been PTS.

Belfast Council were never going to allow this dog to go home, they couldnt be seen to lose face or back down.

So sorry for the family and all the dog lovers who petitioned and tried to get this dog back to his rightful place. Sad

seeker the thing is a lot of people see the waggy tail and think you are joking when you say "stay away - he/she isnt friendly towards people/other dogs" They dont think your dog would bite them - because they have 'special powers'

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 11/07/2012 14:18

oops lots of X posting going on. Smile

midori1999 · 11/07/2012 14:18

Having lived in Northern Ireland and seen the disgusting treatment of animals there in comparison to the rest of the UK and their dog wardens in actions first hand, I can't say any of this suprises me sadly. Where I lived the local dog warden was indeed a puppy farmer. Sad

seeker I have a dog here, a rescue dog (puppy farmed by my local dog warden co-incidentally). He looks like Lennox as it happens and he is nervous. He is very dog aggressive, although that has improved with lots of work and he is nervous of strangers. I suspect if he wasn't carefully managed and he felt he had to defend himself, that he would bite someone. However, that doesn't mean he deserves to be taken from my home and his family, locked away for two years, not looked after properly and then killed. He is absolutely not a danger to me or my children and he is without any doubt not a danger to the general public because he is well looked after and properly managed.

seeker · 11/07/2012 14:20

"my dog bites, keep away"

"get away or he will take your face off"

Well, for me, those are significantly different statements.

The owner said that he could be aggressive. She said he had anxiety issues. And he does not appear to have been muzzled when he was picked up.

This could all have been a miscarriage of justice. But what sort of a life would he have if he had to be muzzled and on a leash all the time?
And better a dog pts than a child mauled.

LtEveDallas · 11/07/2012 14:20

I wouldn't believe a thing that the Dog Wardens said. They have LIED and LIED and LIED throughout this case.

My dod has "an issue" with strangers (Which is all Mr Barnes said) - but thankfully she doesn't look like a Pit-Bull Type which is all Lennox was guilty of. If we lived in NI would they have taken her too?

I have no idea what mix MuttDog is - We have guessed at Springer / Lab / Whippet. There is every chance that she has Pitt Bull in her. BSL is a crock of shit. That and the LYING dog warden were Lennox's death sentence.

(and if Lennox is a Pit-Bull Type, why isn't his litter brother a Pit-Bull Type? How can 2 dogs from the same parents not be the same mix? If I owned Lennox's litter brother I'd be getting him out of NI quick smart)

It's that type of hysterical over-reaction that led to the shitty BSL Seeker.

A leashed dog only needs to be leashed in public. A muzzled dog only needs to be muzzled in public. Plenty of time for a life there.

"And he does not appear to have been muzzled when he was picked up."

I'm pretty certain he was taken from their home, somewhere where they wouldn't have needed to muzzle him.

"hysterical over reaction" Grin

PandaWatch · 11/07/2012 14:29

seeker from what I understand he was taken from his home. Most dogs that need a muzzle in public don't need one at home and the Courts do not have jurisdiction to order a dog wears a muzzle in the home.

Poor, poor Lennox. Victim of a pissing contest IMO.

PandaWatch · 11/07/2012 14:30

LYING Bitch was playing with Lennox in his own home before she took him.

OP posts:
LtEveDallas · 11/07/2012 14:36

It is a hysterical over-reaction Seeker. There was no point in mentioning a 'child mauled' when you are talking about a dog that had lived all his life with a child and had never shown agression to her, or her friends.

Or were you just trying to bolster your point with some hyperbole? Is that more like it?

OP posts:
D0oinMeCleanin · 11/07/2012 14:39

I've asked this before and I will ask again.

Given the media attention this case has drawn and given the general public's love of a good controversy and limelight if poor Lennox was such a danger to the public, then where are all the "I walked past Lennox one day and he ate my head in one mouthful" headlines?

All I see is people jumping to his defence.

GingerWrath · 11/07/2012 14:39

They were only in the wrong home because they went to the wrong address, they shouldn't have been there in the first place! VS wasn't planning on rehousing him with a family, she was going to take him to a sanctuary in the States!

GingerWrath · 11/07/2012 14:40

NOBODY ever complained about him, he was picked up when the wardens knocked on the wrong door!

midori1999 · 11/07/2012 14:40

Oh, and the main point being, had Lennox been a Golden Retriever, a Poodle, a GSD or in fact, any other breed or type than what he was deemed to be, then regardless of his behaviour or how nervous or aggressive he might be, he would not have been seized and not have been killed, quite possible even if he had bitten someone.

seeker · 11/07/2012 14:57

If you want hysterical over reaction what about the petrol soaked letters sent to council employees?

D0oinMeCleanin · 11/07/2012 15:02

No one on this thread is defending that behaviour Seeker, but those people's over reaction does not excuse the horrendous way the Barnes' family and Lennox were treated. Nor does it make this ridiculous, draconian law any less outdated, knee jerk or useless.

GingerWrath · 11/07/2012 15:07

What about the BCC staff making animal noises to perfectly polite people phoning to enquire about Lennox?

PandaWatch · 11/07/2012 15:16

"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men."

RIP Lennox :(

Ephiny · 11/07/2012 15:22

I don't agree with the people sending threatening letters etc, it surely goes without saying that that's not an acceptable or helpful thing to do no matter how strong someone's feelings.

Doesn't change how sad and shameful the way this poor dog has been treated is though.
