Puppy sleeping all evening - normal?

Gorran · 04/07/2012 21:29

Daisy is sleeping all evening from around 7.30pm until bedtime (we aim for 11.30pm but it's not going well) - with a 10 minute walk around 9.30pm.

The thing is, we're struggling with bedtime (whining and barking in the crate and her becoming very wakeful and ready to play at bedtime) and I don't know what else to do to try and make things easier.

She eats around 8am, 1pm and 7pm. Starting to reach the end of my tether where sleep is concerned...

Mine sleeps from around that time, we let her out for a wee between 9/10 pm and then bed in her pen.

Mind you she has had an evening walk about 6.30 ish.

Perhaps that late walk is waking her up we always did -do last walk at 7.30ish, he sleeps till around 10.30 when he gets woken (much to his disgust) for a wee then goes straight in crate x

LAst walk should be earlier, I think.

What do you do when she whines and barks?

Our puppy sleeps pretty much solid from about 7 ish except for pees etc. I think thats normal.

Not sure about the whining, ours whined the first three nights but when it was ignored she soon stopped...as wallace says what is your reaction to it?

LovelyMuffins · 05/07/2012 09:05

maybe ditch the crate?

Gorran · 05/07/2012 11:12

We ignore, for the most part. We never go in until she's stopped and then whisk her out to the garden in case she needs the loo, no attention given, all v lowkey, then into crate again.

The problem comes when she whines and barks so much so late at night. We are in a semi and I worry about our neighbour. We have forewarned him, explained we have a pup, and he's v understanding (and a bit deaf!) but I still worry.

Anyway, last night was better - she went to bed around 11.50pm and woke at 6.10am this morning.
