some advice needed please, I have a 15 month old jack russell who sleeps for up to 15 hours a time without getting up for any thing not even the door bell going will stir him. Our vet said its nothing to worry about he is just very chilled out!? Is this normal? even a 20 min walk leaves him shattered, hes not over weight, and half the time cant even be bothered to chase a ball. All advice and thoughts welcome.

When he is up and about, is he very active, when you are out, is he running about non stop?

If so then shutting down the rest of the time would be normal, and you have a happy contented dog.

but I would make sure that your pet insurance is up to date, before going down the blood test route, as if it does reveal anything, you want an insurance that covers long term care in place.

When we go out he pods round like a old dog, he might have the odd burst of energy. Pet insurance is up to date and thank you for advice.

no that is not normal then, you do need to go back and ask the vet again, do you have more than one vet at the practice?

has he been done and is he over weight?

For a Jack Russell, this sounds very unusual and I would be worried. JRs are usually lively little bundles of energy with no "off switch".

Have you noticed any changes in his weight, drinking or weeing patterns lately? Does he play with toys, Kongs etc? Do you take him to classes? How is he with other dogs? Even if he'd been neutered, this would usually leave a terrier as a lively and loveable bundle of mischief, into everything, and on the go all day.

Hope things go well at the vets. Smile
