Dog Eye Injury

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had experience of a dog with a hurt eye? My husband threw the ball for our dog last night and it bounced funny and hit him in the eye. It's 24 hours later and the dog mostly looks fine, but it is slightly swollen and every now and then he starts blinking and shuts it a bit. As it's Sunday our vets is only open to emergencies i don't think it classes as one. Or does it do you think? My husband who is more relaxed than me says it is definitely better than it was yesterday and will probably be completely better by tomorrow and just to wait and see. What does anyone think??
Thank you v much (only been dog owners for 3 and half months and lots to learn!)

Hi Arabella. How's your dog today?

I have always had big dogs, and they all tend to be loons, and are always huirting themselves. Cuts and bruises are no issue, and I just sort them out my self, but anything to do with the eyes I always get a vet to check.

I probably wouldn't have done so as an emergency based on your description. Major swelling so they can't open it, any weeping/discharge, if they appear to be having trouble seeing (bumping into things etc) and obviously if it is majorly uncomfortable would be triggers me for. Also, anything going into the eye, rather than a ball to the outside would also worry me enough to at least ring the vet.

Hope that helps if there's another incident, and hope your pooch is better today.
