I've read they are good with children, and we like them.

Would like some first hand experience of them.

Only 2nd hand I'm afraid, someone I know has one, she got it because her family loved her brothers. They are incredibly expensive, upwards of £1000, hers was £2000 and is very good with the kids but has already had several costly health issues and is not yet a year old.

Personally I have a bit of an issue with dogs that can't breath properly so although I love the personality of Pugs etc. I wouldn't have one because of the high likelihood of health issues, just don't think it's fair on the dog.

As MothershipG says, from my experience they are lovely dogs. Nice little characters.

However, most of the one's i've known or met are not free breathing dogs. They all have health problems and have to be monitered all the times. They are bred like this so it is difficult to find one that wont have health issues.

I personally wouldn't get one, even though I love them because I have a problem with breeding dogs with such bad health they cant breath properly but that is just me.

If you are serious and have £2000+ to spend I would suggest going to the breed club and searching for a breeder that is doing all health checks and only breeding from free breathing dogs and bitches.

I have a French bulldog and an English bulldog, lulu ( the Frenchie ) has a lovely temperament and has alway been brilliant with my children. My Frenchie is 9 years old and I've never had any major health problems with her, she hurt her back about 5 yrs ago and needed rest and painkillers. IF you buy a bitch I suggest you get her spayed ASAP because they bleed very very heavy. My English bulldog is 8 yrs old and I've never had any health issues with her other than the odd eye infectiion. Not all bulldog breeds have a lots of problems. My girls are both old and a picture of health xx

I have a pug x french bulldog who is an absolutely wonderful dog!

She's a bit mental but is hugely good fun and lovely for our family. I've heard frenchies can be a bit dog dominant and to be honest, I can see this in my dog. My dog needs more socialising than she has had, as she's quite barky all other dogs that she meets, but never aggressive. She's lovely with my parents massive lurcher. I think they're lovely dogs but I'd worry about their breathing, and for this reason I don't think I'd get another pug/frenchie. Her breathing is much much better than pure pugs that I've met, but she was bought when I was fairly naive about dogs/ethics etc and I'd definitely do things differently next time around.
