How dog you stop your dog from melting in the heat?

My thick haired doodle is metling in this heat, we have had her coat cut quite short, we give her lots of water, ice cream in her kong as well as the odd ice lolly or 2 :)

She also loves it if we put the hose on her.

Please give me your tips

-Early morning and evening walks.
-Walk on routes through heavily canopied forest if you have to go later in the day and carry a water bottle filled with ice water and a collapsible bowl.
-Constant refilling of ice-water bowls in the garden and kitchen and we sometimes freeze cubes of chicken broth with treats in them and give them to dogs to have (in the backyard only, way too messy for indoors Grin )

only walking in heavy woodland in the early morning, if I cant get out early we have actually missed a couple of walks which is irtually unheard of here. keep dropping ice cubes in the water bowls. frozen chicken wings every couple of hours, plus frozen yoghurt pots.

Frozen chicken broth, what a great idea, she will love that Grin

We have been taking her early morning and in the evening for walks, she didnt want to go last night.

thanks

My lab likes to sleep in the sun underneath a large towel soaked in cold water. I got the idea from a dog show, very hot day and all the big dogs had wet towels draped over their backs.

I get his coat clipped completely off. He's not a breed you'd normally do that with but he's so much happier when it's done that it's worth the funny looks.

We take them swimming in the river. They love that!

We don't walk our boxers till the evening when its really hot.
They have a paddling pool with about three inches of water in, I throw the toys in and they go in and get them out.
I've made a shady bit under the apple tree with an old duvet and a couple of bits of wood ( they were scared of the golfing umbrella!).
I'm thinking of buying them one of the pop up beach tent thingys from Ikea.

I've been walking mine at 6:30am. Have a fan in kitchen if i go out and put ice in their water bowl. I'm at home all so windows & doors open they tend to sleep under shade of a tree in the garden.
