Neighbours crazy dog-advice please

Looking for some advice.

I've moved to the country and one of our neighbours have 3 dogs that keep coming in to our garden, 2 seem really mellow and I'm quite happy if they wander around and sleep on our patio however one is very skittish and quite scary with his barking, I know it must be strange for him with new people around but he makes me nervous, and I'm usually out with a toddler so don't like him getting too close. So should I give the dog treats to befriend him or
squirt water at him to keep him out of the
garden , or any other suggestions I don't really see the neighbours around as the have a big drive way up to their house and they can't really keep him in doors because they have a lot of land and stables that he wanders around

Ask the neighbours politely to fence their grounds as your land is not their dogs toilet.

Presumeably if the dogs can get that far they also have access to a road?

You could always rush round in a bit of a panic when you see the dogs in your garden and say 'oh my god I'm so sorry but I've just knocked one of your dogs over with my car!' Cruel but probably effective.

I think the best thing is to ask your neighbour to keep their dogs in their own garden. If they have a lot of land, they don't have to fence the lot, just a section for the dogs.

When neighbours' dogs occasionally wander into my garden, I say 'go home' firmly and point. They usually go; some dogs seem to know what 'go home' means and in any case they can follow a pointing gesture.

If you're not sure of a dog though, the safest thing is to completely ignore it. Don't speak to it, touch it or make eye contact. Then it will probably ignore you. If you start giving them biscuits, they will be over all the time hoping for more biscuits, so only do this if you like the idea of borrowing the dogs every day!

Call dog warden/council dogs should be under control at all times so shouldn't be allowed to run free. It's the law as I understand it.

Thanks. Will try the firm go home first , don't want to make enemies so soon by reporting the dog, have tried the ignoring, but with a toddler saying 'ello doggy' it's not very effective.

I'd make a big fuss of him and try to befriend by giving him treats but that's probably not the correct thing to do unless you'd like to have him visiting all the time .

Talk to the neighbours and explain the situation.
