Training dog to go to loo in one place in garden

I love dogs but I hate scanning the garden for crap before the children can play in it. I am preparing for a new dog and really want it to go in one place rather than all over the lawn. Anyone trained their dog to do this? And how?

Yes, when I was house training him as a puppy I always took him on lead to the same corner of the garden, told him 'toilet' as he went and then loads of praise. He learnt very quickly what toilet meant and where to go. Not sure if I'd have been able to do this with an adult dog though.

One thing I didn't try hard enough with and wish I had. Definitely advise you do this. I hate the poo hunt. I always feel like I'm doing a really twisted Easter Egg hunt...

Thanks guys. The new dog is 2 - will this be too much of a new trick I wonder? I wondered about putting some sand down in the corner to make it his loo. Are there things you can use (like sue kind of scent) to encourage them to go in one place? This is a big dog and there will be big poos (boak)

Never tried them, but I've seen these in the pet shop Pee Post. We have a 5 month old pup and I used to put his lead on when I wanted him to wee, otherwise he'd just want to play (then wee inside when he's finished playing Angry). He seems to gravitate toward the spot where I encouraged him to go now, even when off lead so I think it's perfectly possible.
