Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!
:)

We took him this morning, I was really surprised, I thought that Jill would live, I dunno, secluded, down a track or something. But she actually lives in a semi detatched in just a normal row of houses, the kennels are right at the bottom of the garden, the garden is about a mile long!

TheCunnyFunt · 01/07/2012 11:19

Ok well a mile was a bit of an exaggeration but you could only just see the kennel block at the bottom. Jill was saying he did about 3-4 laps of the garden and was then pooped :o she said he climbed into their front room chair which would be fine only it's a swivel one :o I can only imagine how confused he must've been at that. He whined a bit at night but was fine :) Jill said they are all very impressed with his condition and I must walk him miles (I don't, about 1.5 a day) as he's got some muscle on him! He was so pleased to be with other greys though bless him. But when they brought him home he was towing them up the drive :o

The wedding was fab, I managed to lace up my sisters dress perfectly so I was very pleased I'd done it right. The wedding car was a vintage 1937 Rolls Royce (Phantom, I think was mentioned?). It took us 4 bridesmaids to the church then came back for my sister and dad. The dress was gorgeous and the cake was amazing! It was sage green and in the shape of a birdcage, same style as this but nicer and 3 tier. MIL took DD at 6.30 so DP and I could let our hair down for once! That was a novelty, not being woken up at 6 by crying :o we had such a good night :)

Scuttlebutter · 01/07/2012 16:17

Cunny, the pics of you are gorgeous. That lovely eau-de-nil colour really suits your colouring - you looked a million dollars, and so did P. Smile Also, it was so nice to see a wedding where everyone didn't look as though they'd tried to out-tan David Dickinson!!

Did you cry at all? I am incredibly squishy at weddings - love them and always end up ruining my makeup. Blush

Andy is incredibly impressed at Sprocket mastering a swivelly chair - he says it is now a short step to becoming a proper Bond villain, and having a special cave with gadgets on the walls. He fancies exploding squirrels. Grin

MissBetseyTrotwood · 01/07/2012 18:48

YY, lovely pics - you look fab!

Sprocket's getting a white cat (stuffed, obv!) for Xmas this year from Billy.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 01/07/2012 19:12

And doesn't Pembrokeshire look lovely? The tired hound in the car pic had me giggling - you broke the dog! (in a good way!)

And some of a rather attractive whippet and his lovely owner I see? Grin

TheCunnyFunt · 01/07/2012 19:54

Aww thank you :)
Our family are generally all pasty and not big on tanning :o
I didn't cry until my dad made his speech, that was lovely. I nearly cried when they went in st whatshisnames chapel to sign the register and they had disney love songs playing, and my favourite song from Tarzan came on Blush they came out and the rev announced 'Mr and Mrs MaidenName. . . Uh I mean MarriedName' :o

:o white cat, he can sit in a swivel chair with it then and stroke it with his teeth menacingly.

Oooh are we all doing xmas presents for the dogs? That would be ace, won't cost much to send a few cuddlies through the post will it?

MissBetseyTrotwood · 01/07/2012 20:15

LOVE that Xmas present idea. Billy is defo getting a stocking this year.

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 14:39

I think what I'm going to do for Sprocket is mash up some christmas dinner and stuff his kong with it. I don't know what's happening this christmas though, we usually have an hour at home to open our presents, then head to MILs for presents and christmas dinner, then head to my mums for presents and christmas dinner. This is what we have done for, oooh about 4 years in a row. But this is the first year we'll have the dog. I hope no-one minds us bringing him with us. We'll be out from approx 10am till 8pm ish and he can't be left that long and I couldn't palm him off to anyone even if someone would have him!

Oh my god. It's the 2nd of July and I'm worryIng about christmas already :(

Scuttlebutter · 02/07/2012 15:08

Blimey, Cunny, you eat TWO Christmas dinners!! Shock I'm impressed and slightly awe struck. We are always at home for Christmas - I love it, with the tree and the dogs and everything, though we often have relatives/friends to join us.

I love the idea of Christmas presents for the dogs. Grin

I think about Christmas a lot during the year, not in an obsessive sort of way but in a quiet, "ooh,I'll stash that away ready" sort of thing. Also, we do a lot of making of things (chutney, jams, etc) and I sew, stitch, make cards etc so preparations start a long way out, and then are much less frazzled and more enjoyable.

Our woofs have their own Christmas dinner Blush - not too much veg, but they get turkey, stuffing, gravy, sausages, etc. They also have a vital role in helping to unwrap gifts Grin We have experimented with giving them sprouts, but the results were banned under the Geneva Convention.

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 15:14

Yep we eat 2 christmas dinners Blush :o but in my defence MIL doesn't do very big portions and she dishes up for 12 on the dot, by the time my mums is ready (around 5-6pm), we are ravenous.

Then we go to my grandmas on boxing day for dinner no.3 :o

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 15:15

ShockShockShock Giving greyhounds sprouts??? Are you quite mad???

MissBetseyTrotwood · 02/07/2012 17:10

Billy has finally mastered the sofa. OMG, there is no going back. The DSs are ruthless though - they totally staked it out as their territory when he arrived and he hops down and back onto his bed when he hears them coming!

YADNBU at all to think of Xmas now. NOT at all. It is my very most favourite time of year ever. See up thread? DH is on tour in the US for the 3 weeks previous and is meant to get home Xmas Eve. MIL's for Xmas lunch methinks.

LOVING the idea of Xmas dinner up a Kong. So to speak. Grin

Scuttlebutter · 02/07/2012 17:55

Cunny, we only did it once Wink - believe me, that was quite enough!!

Betsey, yes, I love it too. It's a magical time of the year. Glad Billy has made that important step forward. Grin Does MIL do a proper MN poncetastic festive feast?

I am very happy - I have discovered the Tour de France app for my phone - so now as well as watching it obsessively, talking about it obsessively and thinking about it obsessively I can fiddle with my phone obsessively Smile I know Lost is also an addict Smile

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 18:08

Oh gosh yeah I remember that post Betsey! You'll have to be ridiculously organised won't you?!

Scuttle I had a thought earlier, will you be doing a seasonal range? Easter, christmas etc?

Scuttlebutter · 02/07/2012 18:40

Yes, there will be Halloween and Christmas coats!! Am currently sourcing some Halloween fabrics Smile

BehindLockNumberNine · 02/07/2012 19:46

Hello all, how are you all :-)

I have been avidly reading your posts but have not had much time to post... Have had a quick glance, stalled at the sprouts at christmas - shudder!

Had a great time yesterday at the Celia Cross Greyhound Trust members party, lots of lovely dogs to coo over. Darling Ellie who we walked at the great greyhound walk last weekend was in her kennel, bouncing and wagging at all who came to look at her. Such a sweetheart!

On Sat night Sam had his trial sleepover with my friend and her 3 dogs, a practise run for when we go to the Netherlands in August. He had a whale of a time and actually looked a bit sad and lonely once we got him back home. I think he really enjoyed being part of a pack (unless I am majorly projecting here...)

Not much else to report, Sam has a weird reddish pink soft fleshy lump on his tummy. It goes pale pink / skin coloured when left alone and red when you fiddle with it. It is tiny, the size of a flattish pencil top eraser. It is not causing him any pain and does not appear to be attached to anything underneath the skin. It seems to be on the skin. It actually looks a wee bit warty. He is due his vaccinations later this month so will get the vet to look at it. Have googled and scared myself though!

Scuttle, will you be doing a lightweight whippety sized raincoat? Sam only has his nylony fleece lined one for in the rain and not only does the rain go through it after a while but he gets hot in it at this time of year. Do whippeties / greys generally wear cagoule / pack-a-mac type coats?

LostInFabiensEyes · 02/07/2012 19:48

Just watching the highlights Scuttle Wink

I'm already thinking about Christmas Cunny, we live miles away from my family to we have to choose between carting everyone up north + presents or staying home and cooking for about 5,000 people as we are the only ones who have a kitchen big enough to fit all DH's family in. I am so feeding whippety sprouts, might finally give the Bil's a taste of their own medicine Grin

Scuttle my friendly local whippet owners are very impressed with my spokesmodel's coat, particularly the thickness and lining. They were wondering if you could do a cagoule for whippets in about the same thickness of material?

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 19:54

Hello Lock nice to see you! That's what Jill said when they brought Sprocket home, that he'd a lovely time being with other greys again and seemed a little sad to leave but happy to be home!

Yy to pac-a-macs! I was only thinking earlier how sprocket could do with one as it was too warm for his coat but raining!

LostInFabiensEyes · 02/07/2012 19:55

Cross posts with Lock and we've both got the same raincoat requirement, I think we've found a new addition to your range Scuttle Grin My boys had muddy puddles coats that were lovely thin rubbery stuff, kept West Wales rain out so must have been good.

Whilst we are doing injury's, whippety has a graze on the inside of one thigh, I keep throwing savlon on it and we've kept away from the muddy river for a few days, that'll do won't it?

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 20:04

Lost, Fabien eh?? Wink

LostInFabiensEyes · 02/07/2012 20:11

Blush Forgot about my name change. I do love Cancellara, mostly for the randomness of his English on twitter and his astonishing ability to go downhill on a bike faster than any car.

When I said my boys ^^ up there I was talking about my human ones btw!

Scuttlebutter · 02/07/2012 20:37

Um, lowering the tone completely, Fabien just has such gorgeous bedroom eyes - you just look at him and know he would be really, really dirty... sigh.....

My usual crush, Thor Hushovd isn't racing in this year's Tour, but is apparently going to be at the Olympics. Smile

Pac a mac request duly noted. Waterproof fabric is slightly harder to get hold of and a bit more fiddly to work but we will be doing some experiments. I might call on y'all to test some prototypes.

I wouldn't put Savlon on his thigh - our vet was saying that many human preparations are too harsh for dogs and to just stick to warm salted water to clean and bathe wound, and after that to leave it be. We've adopted that approach - don't go to the vet for anything smaller than a 50 p piece - obviously we would immediately if I thought there was any sign of infection.

Lock - the little warty thing is very common in blonde greys and whippets - Boola has this on his tummy too. Keep a close eye on it, and no need to rush in for a special appt, but ask vet to check it when next in for vax, other routine stuff. I know what you mean - when I saw Boola's tum for the first time, I was convinced he had skin cancer, and felt like such an idiot when I found that they are really common on blonde dogs. Blush But you are right to be vigilant. Smile

BehindLockNumberNine · 02/07/2012 20:52

Will have to go and google this Fabian bloke in a minute...

Scuttle, thanks for that. Feel a bit more relieved. Will keep a close eyes and book his vax for the first week of the school holidays (in 3 weeks time) and get it checked then.

Yes yes to raincoat please, could really do with one. They greys at CCGT have them, in snazzy green with Greyhound Rescue emblazoned on them. Fancy a funky red or blue one for Sam.

Btw, are you going to stick to coats or will you branch out to collars? (thinks of poor credit card)

TheCunnyFunt · 02/07/2012 20:54

Shock ScuttleButter! Shock You dirty cahhh :o

Scuttlebutter · 02/07/2012 21:02

Yes Cunny, both Lost and myself are connoisseurs of the totty/breathtaking professional athletes that make up the Tour. As I'm built for comfort rather than speed myself, I don't want a skinny climber, but like something a bit more meaty IYSWIM... Grin Hence my liking for Thor. But if you have a look at Fabian, you will see what I mean about the eyes, and I can also imagine him talking and saying some very naughty things in that charming way of his. Sigh...

Lock, no I'm not going to do collars. There are already many excellent companies doing that (as our hounds' necks and our credit cards can confirm!)
