Hi does anyone have an idea what would cause sudden lameness in a very small 9 year old dog ,could it be arthiritis ?

You say back legs gone in the title, but in post you say lameness. If small dog is unable to use hind legs I would suggest a vet ASAP as this could be a disc problem and needs urgent treatment. If it is just lameness I would still say vet fairly soon as there is a wide variety of causes.

Arthritis isn't usually sudden, I don't think. If it's just lameness then maybe an injury, though if it's a case of both hind legs suddenly 'gone' it sounds more like something neurological - either spine-related or a stroke :(

I would get it checked out by a vet.

Been to vet we have some painkillers but she seems to be getting worse :(

What breed? Some do have wonky backs, but 9 doesnt sound very old for a small breed. I know a vet who does acupuncture and says that it works on animals.

I think she is a mix between a westie and a yorkie she only weighs 3 kilos. Vet has taken x rays and blood samples and cant find anything strange.

Poor little thing :( Is she able to walk at all? Does it look like both legs are affected?

Frontpaw · 11/04/2012 16:55

Can she control her bowels at all?

brokenglass · 11/04/2012 17:20

Both legs are affected, she cant stand properly to empty her bowels she wont stop shaking we go back to the vets tomorrow .
