pet insurance - can you recommend one please?

we have a 4 month old springer spaniel and I've been wondering about getting her insured. She will be a working gun dog when she is a bit older - not sure if this will make any difference to the policy or not and currently goes to work with DH during the day.

what do I need to know about pet insurance? what should be definitely included? Please enlighten me.

I've got pet insurance with Argos for my almost 2 year old springer.
For me, it was important for the insurance to cover lifelong conditions, so if he developed something, they would continue to cover costs for treatment past the 1st year.
Also, the amount they will pay out each year could be important. Our one is £7,000 per year. We've not got anywhere near it yet, have only claimed about £300 for each year but its reassuring to have it.

Lastly, my vet bills the insurance company directly meaning I don't have to pay out and wait for a refund.

Just avoid E & L or any policy underwritten by them, in my experience they rarely pay out. Petplan, tesco, morethan and nfu are all good to deal with

Pet plan is a really good insurance a bit more expensive but they cover alot more then other conpanys there really quick on playing out too.

Make sure you go for a life long policy which will cover you dog for any reoccurring illness or condition for the rest of his/her life and not just the first year. Pet plan do a variety of maximum cover costs so you can find one to suit your budget. Also pet plan is one of the most trusted by vets to ever claim direct from because there good at playing and fast.

E and L insurance are good and prices are reasonable ;)

I've heard soo many terrible things about E&L aswell and how they make every and any excuse not to pay out an when they do it takes ages to get money and things like that

do they cover the costs of the boosters and if we get her spade?

The insurance won't cover the cost of boosters or spaying, but they will cover for any illness that was not present when you took out the insurance.

My insurance won't actually pay out if we don't keep up to date with yearly boosters. They recently asked for the dogs records before they would settle a bill just to make sure he'd had his booster.
