Does anyone know anything about Pointers?

I thought they were quite high maintenance but I have just looked on Wikipedia and they seem quite similar to labradors/retrievers. I only ask because my friend has just adopted a lab x pointer and she is the scrummiest, most placid dog ever!

Pointers are fab- I have long hankered after an English Pointer. My friend had one years ago, and I've met a few, although they are not as common as many of the other breeds.

They are a little bit loopy sometimes (but not as loopy as the beagles I'm used to!) and the ones I've met have had lovely natures. I want one!

yes, I didn;t know anything about them tbh. I would have shied away but my friend's is absolutely gorgeous. So chilled and amenable. Mind you, that could be the lab in her but I did feel a little bit smitten!

English pointers while gorgeous generally have appalling recall! Mine would bugger off for hours at a time and could jump stupidly high fences. I would love another one one day when I have more time.

shufflebum - I did look them up and they look quite big! I am wondering if my friend's rescue dog is actually lab cross pointer! She is definitely lab. She looks a lot like a lab but she is quite small (they estimate a year or so), certainly not as large as a Pointer looks in teh pics. Thanks for the warning though!!!Don;t think I am up for hours trawling around the /south Downs looking for a dog

They are leggy dogs with deep chests. I think the German short haired pointers are slightly stockier and smaller. Hopefully the lab in her will make her more sane!
