She set off to her forever home a few minutes ago. I miss her already.

I tried so hard not to get attatched to her, telling myself she was not my dog, but it didn't work and now she's gone Sad

There are no cat friendly dogs in atm, so we have an empty house. I need someone to give me a big dog I can trip over constantly.

how sad.... but what a great thing you did for her. sure you wont have a dog shaped hole for long!

EasyToEatTiger · 06/04/2012 10:51

What a lucky dog to have been with you! You'll have them queueing down the street at any moment!

RandomMess · 06/04/2012 10:54

Awwww there'll be another one to foster soon. A friend is fostering a pooley at the moment only it's been shaved as the dreadlocks were a complete matted mess Shock

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 06/04/2012 14:16

Oh D0oin I am sorry, but just think, she's going to a lovely new home with lovely people who will love her and look after her forever :)

Anyway, isn't there now a staffie shaped hole in your life? Wink

D0oinMeCleanin · 06/04/2012 14:21

There's always a Staffie shaped hole in my life. I went to the pound to adopt a staffie but then was shown a fluffy, needy terrier who was about to be pts, so we came home with him instead.

Then I decided we would adopt a staffie, but then someone abandonded a whippet puppy and we got her instead.

I finally decided I would foster staffies and contacted the local rescue, who told me greyhounds are in the most need and would I foster those instead.

I keep trying to rescue staffies but no-one will let me Sad

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 06/04/2012 14:31

Either that or you just can't resist the more needier dogs.

Maybe now the grund has gone you could try for a staffie again?

D0oinMeCleanin · 06/04/2012 14:59

I could but a Saluki was mentioned. Salukis are not staffies. They are very gorgeous though Grin Looking at their site there are only two staffs on there and they both need to homed as only dogs Sad

We tend not to get many staffies up here, which is good in a way, but we are overrun with sighthounds and terrier crosses.

RandomMess · 06/04/2012 15:00

Saluki certainly big enough to fall over and get in the way lots Grin

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 06/04/2012 16:48

Oh I see, Salukis are lovely.

You'll get your Staffie one day D0oin, and hopefully for you and the dog you'll be adopting and not fostering :)

Scuttlebutter · 06/04/2012 19:00

Oh, Dooin, sending you lots of hugs and a big Wine. Will you be staying in touch with the people who adopted her? It's lovely if you can do that. They leave such a special place in your heart. I'm very lucky as we often see some of the dogs we have fostered and transported at greyhound events - tis always v emotional but so uplifting to see them in happy homes, where they are loved and cared for. I have a feeling you won't be without a nice big pointy for very long. Smile

EasyToEatTiger · 06/04/2012 19:56

If you need a dog to fall over, you will want one of ours... especially trained to lie/stand/walk right in front of you no matter what you are doing or where you are goingGrin We were offered a 2nd hand Vizla but already had a 2nd barmy collie (very sane really, but puppy farm/pet shop history). So now we have a house full of collies.

D0oinMeCleanin · 06/04/2012 20:05

They're keeping in touch and going to be sending lots of photos.

Can you send one round Tiger? Ill send it back when I get a new hound.

Aww, sad and happy.

Just be in the moment and enjoy the fresh, grund fart free air. I'm sure another will be along soon!

RedwingWinter · 06/04/2012 21:13

How sad and happy all at the same time.

A saluki definitely isn't a staffie, but they are gorgeous.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 06/04/2012 23:23

Aww, d0oin- big hugs! But you know you fosterers do a brilliant and amazing job. If you are missing a grey, I do a lot of stuff with GAL and I'm sure they could do with a foster or two... Am I right in thinking you are in Scotland?

signet2012 · 06/04/2012 23:56

Aw

Round my neck of the woods the local dog warden have a FB page with loads of staffies on who need a home. :( shame not more like you!

D0oinMeCleanin · 07/04/2012 10:49

I'm not quite as far as Scotland. I'm in Teesside. I think the rescue I work with (Greyhounds Galore) sometimes work with GAL. I've seen their name mentioned on their forum sometimes. And also Grace.

Im in teeside too.

Our local council has loads and loads of staffies in their pound. They are running a piece in our local paper and on FB.

D0oinMeCleanin · 07/04/2012 13:53

Oh, what council is that?

Our pound (low fallowfield) is mainly terrier crosses and lurchers, although you do get the odd staffie.

I can't adopt another dog, I can only foster, but if the pound are struggling i could maybe point them out to the other rescue, who might help if they have the space, although they're probably already aware of the issue. They take in mainly from local pounds.

signet2012 · 07/04/2012 16:34

Hartlepool. They have a facebook page Hartlepool Dog Warden service. There is a super staffies section in the photos. They where in the paper the other day saying they are struggling for space for staffies now.

D0oinMeCleanin · 07/04/2012 16:46

Yes I found them. That's Low Fallowfield. I don't keep a check on the dog warden as much since I've been fostering because I have no space for more than 3 dogs and don't want to give up fostering. It makes me want to go and steal them all Grin. Low Fallowfield kennels is an awful, depressing place. Seem's they've upped their game on trying to find homes for the dogs, which is good.

Poor dogs. There were never that many last year. Looks like we've caught up with the rest of the country now Sad

Funnily the rescue never seems to have many Staffies in and I know they take dogs from Low Fallowfield and other local pounds. I'll have to find out why they don't take in many staffies.

I've found a puppy I want to foster now. I've emailed the rescue, but don't know if I'll be too far from them. It's worth a try, they did say they were desperate for a foster home for him and he's good with kids and cats, needs a lively playmate (that'll my the Devil Dog, then) and is one of DH's preferred breeds so long as we emphasise lab and ignore the GSD Grin.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 07/04/2012 17:31

Good luck! Sprocketty boy has his paws crossed for you :o

signet2012 · 07/04/2012 17:35

It breaks my heart, I wish I could have them all. I have no idea how owners can just "lose" a dog! Mine is never out my sight! Then they don't go and get them!

The pictures of where they are staying look awful. After my dog has gone to his big couch in the sky I think I would take one in. Right now though, my house is not really big enough and my dog is not particularly fond of sharing me!
