Hi, I want to start giving my pup raw meat but am not sure how much to give at each meal. He's 5 months old and about 12 kilos, collie/staff x. Would 2 chicken wings for example be enough for a meal?

I think so. I feed raw but am fairly new to it. My 25kg 10month old lab x has 4 for her breakfast.

You won't be sorry for feeding raw, my dog is SO much better since changing. She had awful colitis and it cleared within 24hours! She looks great too, her coat shines like a mirror.

I have had a few people say it will make her blood thirsty though Angry

I'm doing it because the pup is itchy (no fleas or mites) and also does about 7 elephant size poos a day! Hoping the change to raw will help with both!

Oh the poo becomes a joy lol! They become nice and small, less frequent and less smelly.
I think you should go for it! I buy bags of mince, meat chunks and chicken wings from a local supplier (Complete Canine, without 'the') and my butcher gives me bones etc, I also treat her to a whole turkey leg from Morrisons every once in a while. They cut it in two and boy does she feast on it!! I give her one piece each day and a smaller supper. Doggy heaven Smile

Thanks for the advice!

2 sounds about right to me! My boy is 24k and has 3 or 4 as a meal.

I keep reading on here about giving dogs chicken wings, but I thought chicken bones were really bad for dogs as they splinter? So is it ok to feed dogs chicken on the bone then?

BehindLockNumberNine · 02/04/2012 14:37

fluffy raw bone does not splinter. Cooked bones splinter which is why you must never give a dog bones from a roast chicken for instance.
But raw bones do not splinter and are absolutely fine!

Ah thanks, never knew that!
