Hi all. I'm a long time lurker but first time joiner and poster.

I have three young children (ages from 16 months to 4 years) and we've just purchased a gorgeous gold pedigree labrador bitch. She is arriving on Monday and at the moment she is six weeks old. The breeders told us that she has been eating puppy food and drinking whole milk as well as feeding from her mother.

I've had dogs before but this is the first time I've had a labrador and the first time I've had a puppy of my own. What do I need to know? I thought I'd ask here as you all seem to be the most experienced I've read.

Thanks for any answers.

:) Exactly! It's fun but hard work. It's started to become even more hard work now she's a bit older as now she needs to learn where she has to pee and poo every time, how to sit on command, how to come back when I call her, how to not pull on the lead and walk with me and..it's a process. A long process that is time consuming and exhausting, especially when you have a family and a house to look after too. Luckily, I'm not looking to go back to work for another year or two if I can fob it off that long.

why is it exhausting revolition? Is it just the relentlessness of it?

Yes, much like a baby. It just seems like the clean up is never ending and whereas you would sit down for a cuppa while the baby sleeps for a few hours you end up trying to drink coffee with a labrador sat on your shoulder. Literally.

it still sounds lovely Smile

I honestly wouldn't change her for the world. All things worth having come with sacrifice and commitment. Her daily walks are keeping me on track with my non smoking too!

Funny how you can love something so much so quickly. I am looking forward t having to walk her. I walk every day anyway and now I will have some company. Plus the dc's will have something to lure them away from electronic devices - it's all good Smile. Have you done any more blog revolution?

To be honest, I've been so distracted the last few days, no! I didn't even take photos of her first walk! I'll get some photos up tonight and write a post to go with it as I have some free time. I'll get photos of her walk tomorrow :o.

It's amazing how much you can love a dog. My dogs when I was a child were a part of my immediate family and when they died earlier this year age 12 and 13 I was broken up for days.
