have JR xCocker spaniel, female just over oneYr.
Damm dog keeps barking constantly. we live rural and the people behind us have free range chickens which she barks at or if the neighbours go out in the garden or if someone walk past the side gate ( USUALLY DOG WALKERS OR POSTMAN). cats or birds too. she not aggressive dog but the neighbours complain and TBH im not supprised but am at a total loss how to stop her! ive tried saying No ive even tried sqirting her with water when she barks but no no effect its driving me mad. we bought another small puppy for her to play with so she had company incase it was a bordom issue but it still goes on. any advice is most welcome please.

You bought another dog to stop the first one barking? Confused Shock

Try training a quiet command. Wait for a lull in the barking, give the command 'quiet' and then treat. It's easiest done with a clicker. Once you have 'quiet' you can train speak.

Oh and stop leaving her unsupervised in the garden.

Will try using the quite command.

i usually just leave the back door open for the dogs to go in and out when they want, i take it i shouldnt do this? i am home during the day with them.

When mine barks I bring them in and close the door. They soon figured out that barking means playtime is cut short.

okay thanks i ahve been calling them in when they bark but as soon as they see me coming they stop barking and look all sheepish and they do come in in with no fuss, its just i spend half my time running up and down the stairs.
when you say they SOON figure this out how long is SOON? as ive been doing this for a while i was just wondering, i am very gratefull for your suggestions.

I brought mine in as soon as he started barking, I didn't do it as a training thing just I hate barking dogs and didn't want the neighbours being bugged. It occurred to me the other day that he rarely barks at the neighbours any more. He's only eight months old and the garden has only really been dog proofed since Christmas so it's taken about three months for him to learn, but I'm not sure when he stopped barking it could have been six weeks ago. Like you my back door is always open so he can trot in and out into the garden.
