goodbye old girl :'(

Just had to say a final goodbye to my lovely girl, she had a huge cancerous tumour and I decided to have her put down thismorning. I knew that the end was imminent, as 10 days of high dose drugs had no effect and she was still not able to eat much and still not keen on walks. But as I said the words, I just sobbed and, when it was done, I wailed in grief. The end was very quiet, she hurummphed as she fell asleep, and then she was gone, quick as that. Darling girl we will miss her terribly.

No matter how kind you think you are being, no matter how prepared you think you are, it still hurts like buggery.

If you are anything like me you will cry your eyes out for a few days. But you made the best decision - and before long you will be able to look back with fond memories.

I'm so sorry :( But how brave you are, and how loving putting her first x

thestringcheesemassacre · 08/03/2012 11:28

We lost our dog 2 weeks ago. It was very upsetting and hard.
I'm sorry for your loss. Please take care.

OoohMrCoyne · 08/03/2012 11:28

Big sympathy from me
My beautiful retriever died a few years ago and I still have her name in all my online passwords, a ball of fluff in a bag with her collar and lead.
It has been similar this week for me with another dog, not a death but given back to rescue. But still devastating.
You need to allow yourself time to mourn, it's only natural.

Personally I'm worse with animals than people... Not sure why.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 08/03/2012 11:29

Oh hatti. Sad I'm so sorry.

Elibean · 08/03/2012 13:36

I'm so sorry, hatti Sad

Yes, it does hurt like buggery. Big hugs to you, she sounds beautiful and you clearly gave her a happy life, and gentle death.

And I still have my old boy's name in online passwords, too, MrCoyne...

LauraShigihara · 08/03/2012 13:42

So sorry Hatti. You did the kindest and most unselfish thing for your lovely girl. It's so hard, I know. Take care of yourself.

xx

MrsDeeBee · 08/03/2012 15:30

So sorry.

(((HUGS)))

ExitPursuedByaBear · 08/03/2012 15:32

Sorry for your loss. Having a little weep on your behalf. Sad

(((Hugs)))

Bloody animals. All that joy and all that pain.

WoodRose · 08/03/2012 19:32

So sorry for your loss. It is grossly unfair that we have such a short time with our beloved dogs. June 5th will be the 3rd anniversary of my old girl's death and I still think of her every day. Hurts like hell. Like Elibean and Mr.Coyne, she still remains part of my online identity.

Take care of yourself and virtual hug being sent your way.

ForeverProcrastinating · 08/03/2012 19:39

Just more sympathy from me, I know how hard it is to do what you have done, I 'released' our Chocolate Lab bitch two and a half years ago and it felt like someone was ripping out my heart. Have you read 'A Dog's Prayer' by Beth Norman Harris, it's on the web if you type it in? Makes my eyes fill up every time but such lovely words. So sorry for you and take care.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 08/03/2012 20:01

So sorry for you loss. You did the right thing even though it is so hard.

Goawaybob · 08/03/2012 20:47

I used to be a veterinary nurse, so seen many people's heartbreak on losing a family pet. Its so sooo hard and anyone who has ever loved an animal will understand. I have had to say goodbye to two beautiful dogs and you would think i would cope more than others, nup - its almost primal, the grief.

You'll have some wonderful memories xxx

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 08/03/2012 20:51

I'm so sorry :( It's awful having to make the decision for them. Big Hugs x
