Would a hunter cat be able to kill a puppy?

We have 2 bengal cats, and one is a prolific hunter, the other can't be bothered. We have guinea pigs and rabbits and the cats spend hours with their paws through the bars of their cages and runs, waiting for them to get close enough, they don't.

We want to get a minature daschund, but I'm now thinking where it's such a small animal, would it be foolish, would a cat be able to kill a puppy? We would crate the puppy if we went out at all, but of course I would expect a puppy/dog to be able to walk around the house without being in fear of its life.

I've seen cats kill rabbits before now, and mini daschund puppy is really really tiny, much smaller than an adult rabbit! I know dogs have teeth and arent prey animals but even so, a young pup is pretty vulnerable.

i really wouldn't- it sounds a bit too risky to me.

when we got our girl (a staff/collie mix) we took her to my mums to show her off.

she trotted up to my mums old moggy, wanting to play, & the cat belted her right across the face & scratched her eye. the dog was almost double the size of the cat. to the day the cat died, my girl was terrified of her, & would cower away.

so a bengal cat & a wee totey mini daschund... nah, i'd be too wary.

maybe a bigger dog, who the cats wouldn't be a risk to?
