miniature schnauzers

Im thinking about getting a dog and my friend has a miniature schnauzer who is lovely. I know a lot about dogs grew up with them and worked in kennels for 10 years but there a breed I've only come across a few of and have totally loved all the ones I've met which is why I'm considering one.

They are FANTASTIC dogs! Our Mini is 5 this year, I wouldn't be without her

She's brilliant with children and especially my DS who loves her attention, very intelligent and easy to look after. Also great as my DP has asthma but no issues with her at all!

Would highly recommend the breed

I started a thread similar to this a few weeks ago as we are planning to get a mini schnauzer later this year. I got lots of great tips and advice which may be useful to you?

Always good to get other opinions, though seems a lot depends on the individual dog plus the amount of time you can devote to their training and settling in. I absolutely adore Miniature Schnauzers and am having to do some very stern talking to myself to be sensible. It's hard!

Oops sorry I name changed a week or 2 ago!
I know why you mean, we have thought about getting a dog for years and have really wanted to get one but i like to think we've been sensible and told ourselves we cant get one until we were in a better situation work wise (still not ideal but me and DH have always worked a long way from home but I have just started a new job a mile down the road)
We are also moving house if all goes to plan so we are going to wait until we are moved and settled in there before looking to get a pup as it's not fair to settle them where we are then uproot and move in a few months time.
So I think we will be looking to get a pup towards the end of this year, possibly early next year (depends how long it takes to get settled in the new house as it needs alot of work so not fair to have that going on with a dog around)
We are decided on a mini schnauzer though as a breed- we would really like a white one! Now I'm working so close in a really flexible job, I will be able to take time off/work from home and come home at lunch to spend time with him/her when we get them!

My black Mini is going to be 6 this year and although I love her to pieces she has her 'ishoos'.

I went for a Mini Schnauzer because I love the terrier look but as a first time dog owner wasn't confident enough to take on the terrier temperament! Unfortunately I managed to get one that is 100% terrier.

She is independent, self-confident, intrepid and intelligent.

The pros of this are that she isn't at all needy, no issues with separation, loves every one, is good with kids, will happily stay with anyone!

The cons are that despite years of training classes (she has her KC Silver award ) and literally £100s on training I am still less interesting than a hole in a fence or a squirrel, so when's she's off lead I have to have eyes in the back of my head. Unless I keep her on lead the whole time taking her for a walk is never relaxing.

We did agility for a while and she was one of the first in her class to master all the kit but then she decided that the cat wee at the end of the paddock was much more interesting than running a course.

But from all your experience of dogs you will know that breed may give general characteristics but they are all individuals!
